promotion
shibli:
I think only the deserving teachers should get promotion. what do you think???
mir:
Well, first we need to identify what should be the criteria for promotion. Many factors are involved of course to set up a criteria. Definitely those should get it who deserve, at the same time it is true that the criteria should be standard and in favour of the employees. It should not also be frequently changed. No one will support the promotion who deserve not.
By the way, fortunately our DIU has its own specified set of criteria. Many of the private universities still have not.
mir:
yeah, that would be the dark side of the moon! If the set-rules are not properly followed, first, setting up criteria become meaningless; second the employees might be demotivated, I agree. If this happens, the authority must take those into account in any organization.
md:
Don't worry authority must ensure transparency. We must keep in mind we are still young university.
nusrat-diu:
I must say that promotion criterias for faculty members of DIU are quite up to the mark. But I think, authority will stay one step ahead if they decide to promote the eligibile faculty member to the senior position from the day, he/she fulfills all the criterias needed. And this auto promotion system can be followed at least up to the level of Assistant Professor. I feel the long process of promotion that includes application forwarded by Head and Dean, processing file, meeting, decision making etc... may create a disappointment among young teachers. I think, young teachers should not face the hassel like making application, waiting too much for decision or paying extra attention about the news of next meeting. And few are encouraged to apply earlier before fulfilling the criterias! So, can we expect a real hassle- free promotion system for faculty members at DIU and be more enthusiastic about teaching?
