Asim Pal, 41, hailed from Noakhali Sadar Upazila.

His wife Bithi Pal said her husband had jumped off their house at Brooklyn's Church-McDonald Avenue on Tuesday local time.

He died an hour later at a local hospital.

Bithi said her husband, who came to the US on a DV Lottery in 1997, was unemployed since January.

She joined him in 2005 after their marriage.

Their eldest son Bijoy Pal is a grade-seven student and daughter Purnata Pal is four years old.

"He couldn't manage a job despite desperate attempts,” said Bithi who works at a bakery.

"He couldn’t bear the unemployed life,” she said of her husband.

“He had broken down but we couldn't guess that he would take his own life."

His last rites will be performed on Friday, she added.
