Articles 8 to 25 under Part II of Bangladesh Constitution generally contain the provision regarding Fundamental Principles of State Policy. Article 8 of the Chapter on Fundamental Principle of the State Policy is general in character and deal with definitions, legal effects and objectives.
(a) Principles of Ideals of the State:
• The principles of nationalism, socialism, democracy and secularism shall constitute the fundamental principles of state policy [Art. 8 (1)]
• The unity and solidarity of the Bangalee nation shall be the basis of Bangalee nationalism [Art. 9]
• Establishment of socialist economic system with a view to ensuring the attainment of a just and egalitarian society [Art. 10]
• The republic shall establish democracy in which fundamental human rights, dignity and oath of the human person shall be guaranteed [Art. 11]
• The state shall own property on behalf of the people through the creation of an efficient and dynamic nationalized public sector [Art. 13 (a)]
• The state shall endeavor to emancipate the toiling masses- the peasants and workers- the backward sections of the people [Art. 14]
• The State shall adopt effective measures to remove social and economic inequality and to ensure the equitable distribution of wealth [Art 19 (2)]
• The state shall endeavor to secure just and humane conditions of work and human labor and to creat conditions in which persons could not enjoy unearned income.[ Art. 20 (2)]
(b) Governance policies
• radical transformation in the rural areas through the promotion of an agricultural revolution, rural electrification, development of cottage and other industries [Art. 16]
• a uniform, mass-oriented and universal system of education and extending free and compulsory education to all children [Art. 17 (a)]
• effective measures to remove illiteracy [Art. 17 (c)]
• protect and improve the environment and to preserve natural resources, bio-diversity, wetlands, forests and wildlife [Art. 18A]
• the separation of judiciary from the executive organs of the State [Art. 22]
• protect and develop unique culture and tradition of the tribes, minor races, ethnic sects and communities [Art. 23A]
(c) Non-justiciable Rights of Citizens:
1. the provisions of the basic necessities of rights including food, clothing, shelter, education and medical care [Art. 15 (a)]
2. The right to work and guaranteed employment at a reasonable wage [Art. 15 (b) & 20]
3. Right to reasonable rest, recreation and leisure [Art 15 (c)]
4. Right to social security [Art. 15 (d)]
5. Right to have equal opportunity [Art. 19 (1)]
