a dictator's last day

Stalin was was one of the most cruel dictator in the history of the world. more than 20 million men died because of him. he was used to utter, " one death is a tragedy, one million is a statistics." how did that brute die ? curiosity is natural. Here I describe about his last day & night: On the morning of March 3rd, 1953, Stalin was at his Dacha outside Moscow. The General Secretary was punctilious about regularity; every morning he would ring down at the same time for coffee, and each day would follow the same routine. On that day though he did not ring down.

the housekeeper and Stalin’s bodyguards became worried but were too afraid to go up and knock on his door to see if he was ok. It was nearly six hours before anyone went into his room.

They found him lying face-down, still in his night-clothes, unable to speak or move. He had suffered a stroke, at some point during the night and had been lying their soaking in his own urine ever since.

The staff got him back into bed, but it was another four hours before a doctor could be found to attend to him - only a few months before Stalin had orchestrated a purge which saw many doctors - especially those close to himself arrested and executed. By the time a doctor was on hand, Stalin was slipping in and out of conciousness and was only able to mumble incoherently. Attending him was Molotov, Beria an Khrushchev. Krushchev later said that Beria swung between vitriolic denouncements when Stalin was out, to prostrate worship when he was awake.

On March 5th the still bed-ridden Stalin died, without having been able to speak a single coherent word.( courtesy : Quora digest)
