The Triumph of the West(BBC)
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:42:04 AM »
It is an excellent BBC series of explaining how the West comes in to being . The development of Western civilization and its continual integration of Roman, Byzantine and Arabic influence are focused in theses documentaries.

'Over the centuries, two important beliefs arose in Europe: a faith that man could order his own destiny, and the idea that progress was normal. But by 1900, doubts had arisen concerning traditional Western values. The continuing problems of poverty, environmental deterioration, the inequality of women, and warfare pose real questions about the advancement of the human race.Thisis noted historian J. M. Roberts' engrossing, in-depth essay on the nature of the dominance of Western civilization and its ambiguous "triumph." Roberts' goal is to gain a better understanding of the present by analyzing what got us here and, possibly, indulging in a bit of cautious optimism.'

The Chinese civilization has long been kept itself aloof from being influenced by other civilization and Thailand was never being invaded by the West, still look at modern Thai and Chinese people, emblem of Western civilization whether willingly or not.

I am keeping this documentary in my watch-list. Btw, this imperialism had to happen one way or another, either by the west or  the east. In the history of the world, there was always a nation that dominated over other nations.
