Engineers invent method to control light propagation in waveguides

A few realized waveguide mode converters. The devices consist of phased arrays of gold nano-antennas patterned on silicon waveguides. Incident and converted waveguide modes are shown to the left and right of the devices, respectively. Operating wavelength is ? = 4 ?m. Credit: Nanfang Yu/Columbia Engineering
