GOOD TEACHERS DON'T TEACH

GOOD TEACHERS DON'T TEACH
The word 'teacher' may come from the verb 'to teach' - but that's exactly what good teachers don't do. Think about it. You have no difficulty speaking English. You are not there, in the classroom, to improve your English. In fact you're almost incidental in the classroom. The only reason you're there is that your students need to *learn* English. That's what they're paying for. It's a strange situation. They're paying you for something that ultimately they have to do themselves. Perhaps they don't realise this. But you can. And when you see this situation for what it is, you can adopt a different attitude, one of helping, advising, encouraging - one of drawing out from the student what is actually there already. Your students already speak English. They just don't realise it!

The art of teaching is an experience, which can only be felt. There is no one who can teach anybody how to teach, i think. It is one form of energy that comes from within oneself.

The setback of the students being weak in English even after their successful completion of 12 years of education is a national problem. As far as DIU is concerned, all teachers concertedly should intend to help students improve their aptitude level in English. For example, teachers from other disciplines can help students on sentence construction and subject-verb agreement.
The English language proficiency of DIU students can be improved should the students having grade C or D in English at SSC or HSC level be given consecutive foundation courses after admission.

The write-up on "Good Teachers Don't Teach" is really motivating for teachers.Infact nowadays, the word 'teacher' has been replaced by the word' ' facilitator' in many places. But unfortunately we are still holding our previous views as if we are preconditioned to keep ourselves active leaving our students passive. To improve our students' skill in English, this attitude has to be changed.A real interactive classroom has to be ensured.
