Students Counseling (Philosophy and Guidance)
« on: July 19, 2017, 02:24:53 PM »
Student, Teachers and Family are the three vertices of the triangle of development of a student. Although the family is responsible for developing a student’s basic manner, attitude, values etc, but teachers are more responsible for refining them. Besides providing academic knowledge teachers have some responsibilities as well as a good chance to lead a student to the right ways. By providing proper counseling teacher can do it easily. But before this approach teachers need to realize the nobility of their profession. Teachers need to be cordial to the students as well as respect them.
Hence, I end up with some effective steps for the teachers to ensure proper counselling as followings:
Steps 1: Approach to the students
It is not so easy to get response from students about their problems. I think these points below can help teacher to get response from the students-
•   Need to be more friendly with proper manner
•   Need to be closer to the student
•   Need to have a good observation power
•   Give respect-get respect
•   Aware about the responsibilities
•   Strict about the rules
•   Proper time maintaining
Steps 2: Finding out the problems /sharing the problems
If teachers are reliable person for the students for sharing and solving the problems, students feel free to share the problems with the teachers. Becoming more reliable with students I think these points might help-
•   Ask them about their family/friends/ relatives for being closer to them
•   Ask their hobbies/interest/ bright side and encourage them.
•   Secure their privacy
•   Give them time and priority
Steps 3: Solution for problems
Once the problems are identified, it needs to solve with proper care as following:
•   Make a file for each students
•   Collect all information (as necessity) e.g. previous academic result, parents contact info, friends contact info, doctor contact info etc.
•   Get suggestions from experts
•   Get suggestions from other teachers
•   Share with the university authorities etc.

It's difficult to behave friendly and maintain strict discipline. For example, late comers mention about traffic jam and other excuses, absentee in quizzes or classes have dozens of reasons, late registered ones have financial, family and health problems etc.
