One Student One Laptop: A Harmony between ICT & Education

With the motto of ‘using technology for transferring education’, Daffodil International University (DIU) set out a project named “One Student: One Laptop” a couple of years back with a view to providing its each and every students with one free laptop. With logistic & technical supports from another sister concern of Daffodil Group, Daffodil Computers Limited (DCL), DIU dreamt to reach technology to the doorstep of every student by ensuring free laptop to every student of the university. DIU is owed to DCL for its visionary, challenging distributorship, which made the whole project done by providing DaffodilPC (the first ISO certified local brand computers) laptop for the students of DIU.

Daffodil International University can proudly proclaim to be the pioneer in initializing the dictum ‘One Student One Laptop’ in the history of Private Universities in Bangladesh. DIU envisions building digital Bangladesh by giving a Brick of technology which name is “Daffodil PC”. DIU started distributing long-awaited DaffodilPC Laptop among the students under "One Student One Laptop Project" from 2nd February 2011. A student named Ms. Thanjida Akhter from the Department of CSE is the first DaffodilPC laptop recipient.
 
DIU had paid emphasis on ICT since the inception of the university in 2002. Gradually it has invented and implemented many ICT oriented projects, software & module. One Student One Laptop project is its consequence to capture the advancement of information technology in line with Digital Bangladesh campaign of the Government. DIU believes, in today’s world superiority of any nation is measured not by its military prowess but by its IT prowess. Being the pioneer, DIU has created stimulating environment providing each and every student with laptops to contribute more to our Digital Bangladesh and thus became an inspirational model to the other universities of Bangladesh. As an IT based university, DIU is an encouragement to the students to be global and to excel in their skills to compete globally.

Nurul Islam Nahid MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh said that Daffodil International University (DIU) is one of the topmost universities in Bangladesh. He was addressing as the Chief Guest of the Free DaffodilPC Laptop Distribution program at DIU Auditorium, 4/2, Sobhanbag, Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on 16th July 2011, Sunday. He urged the students to exploit and utilize all available opportunities of DIU to equip them with Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills to be developed as competent spearheads in workplaces of the country. To cope up with the go of the modern era, technology is a kind of blessing that can bridge between present and future. He hoped this brave endeavor of DIU will encourage other institutions to launch this kind of initiative to help achieving the vision of Digital Bangladesh.

DIU took the "One Student: One Laptop" programme to provide an opportunity to its students to get modern education with links to other international reputed universities at home and abroad DIU distributed free laptops to all of its students, in a bid to tie up with the government's vigorous campaign to turn the country digital by 2021, a year coincides with 50 years of country's birthday celebration.

To ensure more easily & to be steadfast in the way of goal DIU has envisioned, this prominent university had signed an agreement with DCL on 08 July 2011 in the Conference Room of the DIU Admin Building, 102/1, Shukrabad, Dhanmondi, Mirpur Road, Dhaka. The agreement was signed between two parties where high officials form both the parties were present. The agreement will ensure both pre- & post-purchase quality and service of all ICT products

DIU will hopefully contribute more significantly to the technological development of the country and the world as well in future.
