Characteristics of a leader

A requirement for leadership is personal vision - the ability to visualize your goal as an accomplished fact; a thing already achieved.
According to Theodore M. Hesburgh, leader can be defined as "The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet."

I want to add some....
There are several leadership styles, e.g., Autocratic, Democratic, Directive, Participative, laissez faire etc. But the point is that.... it is the most important thing for a leader to identify which style to apply in which environment. There is no good or bad leadership styles, rather it is just an instinct of the leader to get the pulse of the followers and environment of the organization.
Also there could be some styles of the leaders also, e.g., Visionary Leader, Charismatic Leader, Transformational Leader, Transactional Leader, Supportive Leader, inspirational Leader etc.
