Workshop on ‘Web-based Electricity Cost Modeling for Capacity Development and Good Governance’ held at Daffodil International University

Mr. Nasrul Hamid, MP, State Minister, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources speaking at the workshop on ‘Web-based Electricity Cost Modeling for Capacity Development and Good Governance’ held on 24 February 2019 at 71 Milonayoton of Daffodil International University organized by of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Daffodil International University (DIU).

Workshop on ‘Web-based Electricity Cost Modeling for Capacity Development and Good Governance’ held at Daffodil International University. Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a consultation workshop on ‘Web-based Electricity Cost Modeling’ for capacity development and good governance’ today on 24 February 2019 at 71 Milonayoton of the university. Mr. Nasrul Hamid, MP, State Minister, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources was present at the workshop as chief guest while Ms. Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman, Bangladesh Energy & Power Research Council, Dr. Md. Ahmed Kaikaus, Secretary, Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Mr. Monowar Islam, Chairman, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission were present as the special guests. Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU delivered a video welcome message.

A round table discussion was arranged to consult various aspects of the proposed W-ECM project. Engr. Khaled Mahmood, Chairman, Bangladesh Power Development Board, Major General Moin Uddin (Retd), Chairman, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Md. Helal Uddin, Chairman, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority, Engr. Mohammad Hossain, Director General, Power Cell, Brig. Gen. Md Shahid Sarwar, ndc, psc (Rtd.) Managing Director, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO), Engr. Bikash Dewan, Managing Director, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited, Engr. Masum-Al-Beruni, Managing Director, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited, Md. Abdus Sabur, Managing Director, Rural Power Company Limited, Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Additional Secretary, ICT, Project Director, a2i, Mahboob Zaman, Managing Director, Datasoft were the discussants in addition to the chief guest and special guests. The round table discussion were conducted by Prof. M Shamsul Alam, Professor of the Dept. of EEE and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, DIU.

The project overview and planning & design were presented by the keynote speakers Dr. Alam Hossain Mondal, Assoc. Professor of the Dept. of EEE and Mr. M A Razzaque Rupom, CEO of OS CLiCKS, respectively. A video demonstration on W-ECM was prepared and delivered by Dr. Marzia Zaman, E-Power, Kingston, Ontarioo, Canada.     
While Addressing as chief guest Mr. Nasrul Hamid said that we have no alternatives to reform our all citizen services without digitalization towards implementation of vision 2021. Power Division have already been digitalized most of its services. Lots of initiatives are under process of digitalization. The proposed model of ‘Web-based Electricity Cost Modeling’ will help to empower the consumers to ensure their rights, he added.
He urged that tendency of defamation about subsidy in electricity is not logical. Rather, we should treat this sort of subsidy as an investment. Aiming to develop citizen’s lifestyle, government has been providing this subsidy in the same fashion as that of public universities.  When number of consumer of electricity increases, human resource index increases automatically, he added.   
Addressing as the special guest Dr. Md. Ahmed Kaikaus said that power division is enough transparent in their works. That’s why TIB cannot find any corruption till now in power division. Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources keep their website always up to date.

Mr. Monowar Islam, Chairman, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) said that BERC is always concerned and active about consumers right issue. Minimum bill of electricity has been reduced due to BERC’s action.
Ms. Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury said that Bangladesh Energy & Power Research Council provides research fund on power & energy based research. Some of the funds already has been given to Dhaka University, BUET, IUB and many other universities so far. The BEPRC is also committed to provide fund to Daffodil International University for research purpose.
