During the war against Kalinga in 261 BC King Ashoka took fifteen lakhs of people as prisoners. Ten lakhs of men were made slaves. Many thousands of innocent people were killed in the battle. Ashoka felt that a victory won after such a heavy loss of lives was not worth much. He was very sad and unhappy, and took a vow never to go for war again. And he kept his vow till his last breath. Ashoka was convinced that wars could never solve any problem. In his own words he inscribed on a rock at Dhauli near the battle field "True conquest consists of winning hearts".

LTTE and its agents world wide will try their very best to say that it was not them who attempted killing the Sri Lankan PM and killed Kumar Ponnambalam on 5 January, 2000
