Are You Afraid of Inner Peace?

Are you afraid of inner peace? Are you afraid of being calm and relaxed? As strange as this might seem, there are many people who dread inner peace and try to avoid it. Strange, isn't it?
Some time ago, I watched on an interview on TV, with a certain well-known entertainer. In the interview he said that though he was aware of the value inner peace, he was afraid of it. He was certain that it will make his life boring and uninteresting, and take away all the zest out of it. This is strange logic, but quite common.
Do you think the same way? Suppose you gain inner peace, what do you think it will do to you? Do you think it will make you passive and indifferent and take away all the fun from your life? Will it make you an unpractical, weak and introvert person?
People associate inner peace with being impractical, visionary and naive, and unable to take care of oneself. They associate inner peace with yogis, fakirs and people who do nothing, except meditate all day long, away from the problems of the world. It does not occur to them that it is possible to enjoy true inner peace, and at the same time lead an ordinary life, with family and job. They find it hard to believe that a person who leads an active lifestyle, and who pursue goals and gain success can possess inner peace.
These thoughts show lack of understanding of what real inner peace means.
Are you too, afraid of inner peace? Are you afraid it will make your life boring? Do you think it will prevent you from enjoying life? Do you think you have to keep up an inner state of tension, restlessness and anxiety to feel alive? Are you afraid of being able to silence for a little while the constant, and sometimes tiring, chatter of the mind?
Don't you think you can do better without constant anxiety, stress and inner restlessness?
Why do you want money, possessions and good relationships? Why do you want to go to parties, have fun or travel abroad? One of the reasons is the subconscious belief that these experiences will bring you happiness, help you forget any troubles you might have, and also some measure of lack of worry and anxiety. This of course indicates the unconscious search for inner peace.
People constantly seek ways to alleviate or overcome worries, anxieties and fears. They desire happiness and a feeling of confidence. All this results from inner peace.
So is developing inner peace really worthwhile? The absolute answer is yes, it is worth every effort to get it.
Here are just a few of the many benefits:
# Inner peace awakens inner strength.
# It enhances your common sense.
# It makes you more tactful, tolerant and patient.
# It gives you the ability to handle more efficiently your daily affairs of life.
# You learn to overcome anxiety, worry and stress.
# You stop being subject to moods and changeful states of mind.
# You become stronger, so that no one can influence you against your will.
# You remain balanced and poised in difficult and trying situations.
# You learn to look at the bright side of life.
# You become a pillar of strength to yourself and to others.
Remember, you don't have to be a yogi or a monk to enjoy inner peace. You can live a busy and active life, while your mind is peaceful. This is an inner quality, which is independent of external conditions and circumstances.
