Abdul Awal Mintoo

Abdul Awal Mintoo was born in 1949 in Aleyarpur, a small and remote village in Feni district of Bangladesh. He belongs to a family of landowners who initiated his primary education in the village school. He later pursued high school and college education in Feni, Comilla and in the Juldia Marine Academy in the port city of Chittagong. As a merchant marine officer between 1968-1971, he travelled along coasts of four continents. During the Bangladesh liberation struggle in 1971 he sought political asylum in the United States where he pursued higher studies. He received his BSc degree in Transportation Science (1973) and MSc in Transportation Management (1977) from the Maritime College, State University of New York.

Having served a shipping company in the United States for eight years, Mr.Mintoo confronted a moment of truth when in 1982 he decided to give up the security of his ongoing successful career in international shipping and returned to work in Bangladesh.

Abdul Awal Mintoo began his career aspring ot be a ship captain, but has now turned into a businessman and has achieved outstanding success as a leading entrepreneur of Bangladesh.  He advocates societal structure that simultaneously embraces both the market and the government.  A fearless champion of the cause of strengthening the economic infrastructure of Bangladesh, Abdul Awal Mintoo’s business edifice was built by his capitalizing on the rich and varied experience, steady resolve and an indomitable spirit.

Abdul Awal Mintoo was first elected President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBBCI) in 1998 and was re-elected for a second term in 2003.

And for his contribution in different areas he achieved Bangabandhu Award 2008, National Human Rights Award 2008, Sher-e-Bangla Award 2008, Poet Jasimuddin Award in 2005, Mawlana A. Hamid Khan Bhasani Award in 2004.He is randomly attending international conferences and he is very much hopeful that he can develop our country as a competitor of many ICT developed countries very soon and he wish that everybody will be helpful to full fill his wish.

Yussuf Abdullah Harun

Mr. Yussuf Abdullah Harun is an eminent leader of the Bangladesh business community. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (FCA), he is Chairman of several business organizations: Asia Insurance Ltd., Incontrade Ltd., Incontrad Holdings Ltd., Insoft Systems Ltd., Bangla German Latex Co. Ltd. He is a former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), former Vice President and currently Adviser of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He is a sponsor Director and former Chairman of Southeast Bank Ltd. Other positions he held include: ex-Director of IDCOL (Infrastructure Development Company Ltd.) and IIFC (Infrastructure Investment Facilitation Company); ex-member of Revenue Reforms Commission of Bangladesh and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Committee of Bangladesh.

Professor Iqbal Z. Quadir

Professor Iqbal Z. Quadir is the founder and director of the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and founder of Grameenphone Limited in Bangladesh. For nearly twenty years, he has been advocating for the use of mobile phones to empower ordinary people in low-income countries and for commerce-based solutions for their advancement.

While pursuing a career in investment banking in New York in the early 1990s, Quadir recognized that the ensuing digital revolution could bring connectivity to 100 million people living in rural Bangladesh. To make this vision a reality, he established a New York based company, Gonofone Development Corp (meaning “phones for the masses” in Bengali), which became the launch pad for Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s largest phone company providing access to over 22 million subscribers irrespective of their geographic location or economic standing.

From 2001-2004, Quadir taught at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, focusing on the democratizing effects of technologies in developing countries. In 2005, he moved to MIT where he co-founded the journal Innovations (MIT Press) and founded the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship, which promotes discourse and action on bottom-up development and administers a highly competitive fellowship for MIT graduate students who intend to launch enterprises in low-income counties.

Quadir holds both an MBA and an MA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BS with honors from Swarthmore College.
