Software Engineering / E-Learning/Distance Learning System Survey
« on: January 31, 2018, 05:00:37 AM »
Respected All,
We are building a system (web application) in E-Learning/Distance Learning System like Google Classroom, Canvas. But this System has more enhanced features than Classroom or Moodle. To make it more user-friendly and interactive to the users we are providing a survey. Dear Colleagues, please submit your responses just spending maximum 30 Seconds using the below link, which will be more helpful to us as well as the current e-learning system. It's actually an outcome of our research works. (Some screenshots have been attached here)

Software Engineering / Is Augmented Reality the Future of Computing?
« on: June 07, 2017, 03:58:01 PM »
I may have caught a glimpse the future in Santa Clara.  I just attended the Augmented World Expo (AWE) conference.  The conference covers virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR), but the focus here is mostly on augmented and mixed reality. The goal of these technologies is to create a seamless bridge between the real world and the virtual for a whole variety of applications. While this goal hasn’t been met just yet, I got a distinct sense that these technologies represent a new future of computing.

This year’s conference was almost double in size from last years. This year had a strong focus on tools and technology, and was aimed squarely at developers and other people on the cutting edge. These are the people who are creating the killer apps that will make this technology more and more appealing to the masses. Those terrific applications will probably show up in the next few.  Everything from manufacturing to retail to entertainment to architecture is covered. The potential uses for this technology casts a similarly wide net, and there are a lot of great applications just waiting to be created.

Many at the conference are predicting this technology can become as big as desktop and mobile computing. This is because AR allows you to create a “heads up” display that you can overlay on the world. A repairman can have an exploded view of your car’s transmission superimposed over the real thing so he knows exactly how to take it apart and fix it.  Instead of glancing down to your phone to get directions, you’ll see them superimposed on your view of the street. An interior designer may be able to stand in an empty room and furnish it virtually. A surgeon might overlay the MRI scan of your knee over the real thing to see what’s inside before committing to surgery.

While some of these applications may not be real just yet, most are at least on the horizon. You’ll see a lot of early adoption in industrial and manufacturing applications, where the initial cost can be amortized. Consumer applications are probably a little further out simply because it will take a while to get the hardware to an affordable price point with enough application support to make it viable.

Hardware

Augmented and Mixed comes in many flavors, from a simple Pokemon Go-like app on your phone to a full-on head mounted display (HMD) complete with cameras and positional tracking. For HMDs to really take off, they need to be light and unobtrusive, as well as display high quality images with a wide field of view.  At the trade show, a fair amount of the booths contained hardware vendors showing various types of HMDs.  Some were better than others, but none were perfect or outstanding. The ultimate goal is a seamless overlay of reality and we still have a ways to go with field of view, resolution, and integration with the real world.  That said, there were a few standouts.

Meta won an award for Metaworks, a $1000 head mounted AR display that allows for a 90 degree field of view, which is the widest the industry has seen yet. This HMD offers enough resolution and field of view to do actual desktop-like work on an HMD

ODG went in a slightly different direction by showing smart glasses that look pretty much like regular glasses (and don’t make you look like a member of Daft Punk). The R7 and R8 glasses are powered by a mobile Snapdragon processor and should offer a variety of application, from heads-up displays for sports such as cycling, to entertainment and commercial applications.

Kopin is not so much a headset manufacturer, but a manufacturer of displays. They had an absolutely tiny 4K display that can be used in both glasses and head mounted displays. For such a tiny screen, it really has great fidelity

Microsoft had two big booths and a room set up to experience the Hololens with a variety of different applications. They were also showing new hardware from a variety of manufacturers for their mixed reality platform, which is coming in a few months. Microsoft really is going full bore into this area and their Windows 10 platform is set to become a standard.

Software

The software shown and covered at the trade show was more on the technical side. It was primarily aimed at creators who are making content and applications for the new technology. As I mentioned previously, the “killer apps” for AR will be showing up in the next few years.

Unity is being used by a lot of developers to create VR/MR/AR content. They were showing their AR Toolkit for augmented reality. This aligns a virtual camera in Unity to a real-world camera, such as a smartphone or webcam. This can be great for smartphone-based AR applications as well as for platforms such as Google’s Tango.

Vuforia is making a lot of headway into the AR development market with their suite of tools. Vuforia has the tools to recognize and track visual targets in real time. This goes way beyond camera matching in that it can actually “see” certain types of objects, which is great for manufacturing applications. Vuforia can also align virtual objects with real objects, so you can "stick" or align virtual objects to real ones. It supports a wide array of devices, from smartphones to HMDs, and also can integrate with Unity.

Scope AR is another AR development kit that is moving beyond smartphones into head mounted displays such as the Hololens.  Scope builds tools which lets people see CAD models overlaid on real world objects, giving them the ability to easily see when there’s an issue while also being able to deliver quick fixes.

So, while the future in AR is not quite here, there are certainly a lot of people working on it. In terms of AR applications, expect to see more smartphone-related AR applications in the consumer space. Headsets will make their initial mark in the commercial space for things such as design, manufacturing, and construction.  These environments are often very controlled, and make problem solving for features such as image recognition easier.  Full-fledged consumer AR will arrive a little later as prices drop and technology improves.

About five years ago, Wes Stoskopf, SHRM-SCP, realized he had a problem. As vice president of finance and human resources at Phillips Screw Co., a fastener system manufacturer based in Burlington, Mass., he knew he should have a solid understanding of the total cost of the company’s 80-person workforce. But he didn’t.

“We were revising our pricing matrix within our manufacturing division and realized that we did not have a good handle on our total cost of workforce, which is a factor in our pricing,” Stoskopf says.

His situation is not unique. While most HR professionals can tell you what their company spends on salaries and benefits, fewer know the full amount invested in human capital. Experts call it total cost of workforce (TCOW), a metric that may include a variety of labor costs such as recruiting, onboarding and training in addition to salaries and benefits. Phillips Screw Co. now includes all of these costs in its TCOW calculation, which Stoskopf can recite chapter and verse.

This type of number crunching has traditionally been the domain of the finance department alone. No longer. To get the most accurate and useful TCOW figures, finance and HR need to work together to compile and interpret results. And, experts say, this metric will become more important in the HR realm in years to come.

“At most companies, [workforce] is the biggest expense the company faces,” says Brian Kropp, practice leader of the human resource practice at CEB, a business management consultancy based in Arlington, Va. “There is more pressure to figure out how to drive top-line performance and manage costs. By paying people more or giving them more benefits, does that translate into better performance and outcomes? Neither [finance nor HR] can answer that alone.”

Step 1: Identify Your Goals
Step 2: Define Your Variables
Step 3: Present Your Case Wisely
Step 4: Repeat Regularly

Suicide is now very important issue for all country in the world, every year many people died by suicide. Generally young generation are more died by suicide. There have many reason for suicide.

a.      Depression   b. Mental stress   c. Love relation breakup   d. Family crisis  e. Serious health problem  f. Dowry     g. Sexual harassment

Generally there have no most significance suicide sign of suicide. So it is very difficult to identify the fixed method to prevent suicide. We can take some step for eradicate suicide from our society.

1.      Social awareness increase from rural area to city area.

2.      We can make some depression prevention center in our country because generally depression is the main reason for attempts to suicide.

3.      Developed some text book for primary level to higher level that contain suicide awareness and negative impact our society.

4.      For prevent attempts to suicide young generation can play major rule.

5.       Government can make some law.

6.      Increase religious method properly follow.

 7. Can maintain good friendly relation to our children.

Cracking The Coding Interview, Programming Interview Exposed, Data Structures and Algorithms Made Easy

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg delivered the commencement address to Harvard University graduates on Thursday, during which he proposed an ambitious challenge: create a renewed sense of purpose for the world.
The address touched on everything from defining moments in Zuckerberg's own career to global issues such as the threat that automation poses to the future of the workforce. Here's a look at the 10 most insightful quotes from the speech.
1. "Purpose is that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that we are needed, that we have something better ahead to work for. Purpose is what creates true happiness."
2. "There were all these big technology companies with resources. I just assumed one of them would do it. But this idea was so clear to us — that all people want to connect. So we just kept moving forward, day by day. I know a lot of you will have your own stories just like this. A change in the world that seems so clear you're sure someone else will do it. But they won't. You will."
3. "Ideas don't come out fully formed. They only become clear as you work on them. You just have to get started."
4. "The idea of a single eureka moment is a dangerous lie. It makes us feel inadequate since we haven't had ours. It prevents people with seeds of good ideas from getting started."
5. "It's good to be idealistic. But be prepared to be misunderstood. Anyone working on a big vision will get called crazy, even if you end up right. Anyone working on a complex problem will get blamed for not fully understanding the challenge, even though it's impossible to know everything upfront. Anyone taking initiative will get criticized for moving too fast, because there's always someone who wants to slow you down."
6. "In our society, we often don't do big things because we're so afraid of making mistakes that we ignore all the things wrong today if we do nothing. The reality is, anything we do will have issues in the future. But that can't keep us from starting."
7. "The greatest successes come from having the freedom to fail."
8. "When you don't have the freedom to take your idea and turn it into a historic enterprise, we all lose. Right now our society is way over-indexed on rewarding success and we don't do nearly enough to make it easy for everyone to take lots of shots."
9. "We can all make time to give someone a hand. Let's give everyone the freedom to pursue their purpose — not only because it's the right thing to do, but because when more people can turn their dreams into something great, we're all better for it."10. "Change starts local. Even global changes start small — with people like us. In our generation, the struggle of whether we connect more, whether we achieve our biggest opportunities, comes down to this — your ability to build communities and create a world where every single person has a sense of purpose."

PhD students are notoriously famous for procrastinating. To understand why, let’s take a look at an equation Nick Winter presented in his book The Motivation Hacker, as I’ve written about here;

The biggest problems PhD students face are impulsiveness and delay. Most of the time, these two go hand-in-hand. Graduation dates (or thesis deadlines) are so far off into the horizon {delay} that this one hour spent going down the IYS (Infinite Youtube Spiral) {impulsiveness} seems insignificant. Since both impulsiveness and delay are high for PhD students, Motivation levels tend to dip, and so we procrastinate….
a lot…
by watching videos on procrastination like Tim Urban’s famous TED talk.
Recently, I’ve had to fight procrastination because it was a luxury I couldn’t afford between finishing my thesis, my blog, my side business and job-hunting. So here are a few tips that worked for me, which I hope works for you;
Fill your plate and take on more responsibility. I asked one of my friends who’s a working mother how she managed it all; job, home and having a social life. She said, she had to because she couldn’t afford not to. At first the statement was cryptic. I only understood what she meant when I started to get serious about my writing-related side projects (blog/book) in addition to my thesis…all of a sudden, I could get my thesis work done first thing in the day because I had all these other things that I had to do after working hours.
This seems like counter-intuitive advice, but try it out for some time. When an opportunity presents itself, don’t say no because you don’t have time for it (unless you really, really, really don’t have time for it), but if there’s some time that gets funnelled into facebook and the IYS (the infinite youtube spiral), then say, ‘Yes,’ and adapt.
Use external motivators. For me, that was beeminder and I wrote about it here. The idea behind beeminder is that it provides short-term pain for slipping on a long-term goal by taking away money from your credit card until you reach the pledge cap(basically, varying the Delay parameter on your Procrastination equation). I was skeptical about beeminder until I tried it and it worked for me. So I’ve been using it to stay on track for big projects — though my pledge cap is low, to be honest — but I’m happy to report the website is yet to take anything from me. Because my thesis was supposed to be a 150–200 page manuscript, I started beeminder.com around 4 months before the first draft’s deadline. This transformed me from the amateur that I was to the professional that I am. I had to consistently add to my manuscript 5 days a week for 4 months straight.
Know your process. I can’t emphasize this enough. Whether you’re a lab scientist or a writer or a knowledge worker or a student…study your process with the enthusiasm of a microbiologist eyeing bacteria under the microscope. Know all the tiny details of your process, and questions to aid you are;
Make a time-log for how long certain activities take. It usually takes 2–4 weeks of logging to understand your habits, but after that, you’ll be able to fine-tune your daily plans.
2. Know the conditions under which you enter a state of flow. State of flow is a state of hyperfocus while working on an activity. Some things about it from the work of Mihaly Csikszentmihaly, author of Flow;
It’s an inner state of intense focus
It leads to a sense of clarity where you know exactly what you want to do from one moment to the other.
You know that what you need to do is possible to do, even though difficult
Sense of time disappears and you forget yourself. to give you an example, let me tell you something that happened while writing this exact section of this exact post; I was in such a state of flow, I ended up dropping my coffee because I wasn’t paying attention and ended up placing it at the corner of the table, where it plunged to the floor.
So know the conditions under which you enter a state of flow; Do you prefer silence or white noise? Can you work on your bed or do you need to be seated at your desk? Can you work in a coffee shop? Are you always distracted by your colleagues in the office? Do you have to get headphones to stop them from disturbing you?
3. Know how much time do you spend on shallow work and how much time you spend on deep work? If you want to distinguish between the two, Cal Newport gives a clear distinction between the two in his book Deep Work;
Shallow work: noncognitively demanding, logistical-style tasks, often performed while distracted. These efforts tend to not create much new value in the world and are easy to replicate.
Deep Work: Professional activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit. These efforts create new value, improve your skill, and are hard to replicate.
In the context of office work, forwarding emails would fall under shallow work while deep work would probably be something creative like putting together a presentation for a client.
Once you know how much time gets wasted in shallow work, you can adjust your routine so you spend more time on Deep Work and less on shallow work. For instance, my phone is perpetually on silent mode, and I remove the notification from everything. Even work-related emails don’t come to me automatically. I have to fetch them, and I keep Outlook closed for most of the day.
Visual reminders. One trick I learned to keep on top of my to-do list is to screenshot it and keep it as the lock screen wallpaper on my phone. That way the to-do list is always on my face. I usually update it every 3–5 days so sometimes I’ll have an item that was on that I had already done.
Even though I’ve mainly discussed my tricks for beating procrastination, I have to admit the most important thing when it comes to beating procrastination is actually the numerator;

Software Engineering / Why the 8-Hour Workday Doesn't Work?
« on: May 15, 2017, 11:46:49 AM »
The 8-hour workday is an outdated and ineffective approach to work. If you want to be as productive as possible, you need to let go of this relic and find a new approach.

The 8-hour workday was created during the industrial revolution as an effort to cut down on the number of hours of manual labor that workers were forced to endure on the factory floor. This breakthrough was a more humane approach to work two hundred years ago, yet it possesses little relevance for us today.

Like our ancestors, we’re expected to put in 8-hour days, working in long, continuous blocks of time, with few or no breaks. Heck, most people even work right through their lunch hour!

This antiquated approach to work isn’t helping us; it’s holding us back.

The Best Way to Structure Your Day

A study recently conducted by the Draugiem Group used a computer application to track employees’ work habits. Specifically, the application measured how much time people spent on various tasks and compared this to their productivity levels.

In the process of measuring people’s activity, they stumbled upon a fascinating finding: the length of the workday didn’t matter much; what mattered was how people structured their day. In particular, people who were religious about taking short breaks were far more productive than those who worked longer hours.

The ideal work-to-break ratio was 52 minutes of work, followed by 17 minutes of rest. People who maintained this schedule had a unique level of focus in their work. For roughly an hour at a time, they were 100% dedicated to the task they needed to accomplish. They didn’t check Facebook “real quick” or get distracted by e-mails. When they felt fatigue (again, after about an hour), they took short breaks, during which they completely separated themselves from their work. This helped them to dive back in refreshed for another productive hour of work.

Your Brain Wants an Hour On, 15 Minutes Off

People who have discovered this magic productivity ratio crush their competition because they tap into a fundamental need of the human mind: the brain naturally functions in spurts of high energy (roughly an hour) followed by spurts of low energy (15–20 minutes).

For most of us, this natural ebb and flow of energy leaves us wavering between focused periods of high energy followed by far less productive periods, when we tire and succumb to distractions.

The best way to beat exhaustion and frustrating distractions is to get intentional about your workday. Instead of working for an hour or more and then trying to battle through distractions and fatigue, when your productivity begins to dip, take this as a sign that it’s time for a break.

Real breaks are easier to take when you know they’re going to make your day more productive. We often let fatigue win because we continue working through it (long after we’ve lost energy and focus), and the breaks we take aren’t real breaks (checking your e-mail and watching YouTube doesn’t recharge you the same way as taking a walk does).

Take Charge of Your Workday

The 8-hour workday can work for you if you break your time into strategic intervals. Once you align your natural energy with your effort, things begin to run much more smoothly. Here are four tips that will get you into that perfect rhythm.

Break your day into hourly intervals. We naturally plan what we need to accomplish by the end of the day, the week, or the month, but we’re far more effective when we focus on what we can accomplish right now. Beyond getting you into the right rhythm, planning your day around hour-long intervals simplifies daunting tasks by breaking them into manageable pieces. If you want to be a literalist, you can plan your day around 52-minute intervals if you like, but an hour works just as well.

Respect your hour. The interval strategy only works because we use our peak energy levels to reach an extremely high level of focus for a relatively short amount of time. When you disrespect your hour by texting, checking e-mails, or doing a quick Facebook check, you defeat the entire purpose of the approach.

Take real rest. In the study at Draugiem, they found that employees who took more frequent rests than the hourly optimum were more productive than those who didn’t rest at all. Likewise, those who took deliberately relaxing breaks were better off than those who, when "resting," had trouble separating themselves from their work. Getting away from your computer, your phone, and your to-do list is essential to boosting your productivity. Breaks such as walking, reading, and chatting are the most effective forms of recharging because they take you away from your work. On a busy day, it might be tempting to think of dealing with e-mails or making phone calls as breaks, but they aren’t, so don’t give in to this line of thought.

Don’t wait until your body tells you to take a break. If you wait until you feel tired to take a break, it’s too late—you’ve already missed the window of peak productivity. Keeping to your schedule ensures that you work when you’re the most productive and that you rest during times that would otherwise be unproductive. Remember, it’s far more productive to rest for short periods than it is to keep on working when you’re tired and distracted.

Bringing It All Together

Breaking your day down into chunks of work and rest that match your natural energy levels feels good, makes your workday go faster, and boosts your productivity.

Do you notice your energy and focus waxing and waning according to the cycle described above? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below, as I learn just as much from you as you do from me.
