BBA Discussion Forum / Technology and the print media
« on: April 12, 2011, 12:48:22 AM »

Technology is going to more updated day by day and now Media have to think more focused by Information technology. Newspaper and Magazine should been changed by Information technology. We see, that major daily  newspaper and national magazines is going to convert to online website. Bangladeshi newspaper like The Daily star , Prothom alo, the independent, Ittefaq, Kalerkontho, New Age, The Daily Sun And British newspaper like Reuters and also US newspaper , New york times ,Losangles  newspaper or magazines like Reader digest and Times magazine. It will very easy to read any kinds of newspaper or magazine in online website. And registered or Log in his or her name for comment or recommend  for some news update.

Some Advertise form of banner for rectangular or square size of Advertise and sponsorship should be available on websites. But there is some problem that If newspaper or magazine are influenced to the advertisers to change their position or direction from hard copy to online based then it will incur lost revenue. Some Media like Television will get help for newspaper and magazines. In Canada, Canadian House & Home magazines produce a television show called House & Home with Lynda Reeves, Its delighted to know that an audience of 768000. Hard copy circulation of 250000 and readership of 2.7million per month. These twice media combination for an advertiser seeking reach and frequency. It will be good for the newspaper and magazines for advertisers in forecast for the audience. Globe and mail  operates a cable channel called ROB TV. It represent integrated marketing communication opportunity for advertisers by different ways to reach the particular target market. Some newspaper and magazines have to changed for industrial revenue model.
For advantages of technological form, people see the publishes of online information for free. But in online content, publisher found a way to get people pay for this side. Television media are interested in idea of magazine exposing into TV shows. Basically they are constantly looking for new partnership with media supplier, because content produced by lowers this production costs.

However, Its all about business purpose so get some advantages from online business. And take some challenges from it. But over all it will possibly positive direction for this technological area.

BBA Discussion Forum / CLEAR Communication
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:32:19 AM »

CLEAR= Leave no doubt in your reader's mind. Help yourself by being specific, avoiding vague expressions, using familiar words and using simple English. Remember also to use straightforward language that your reader can understand, written in a friendly, natural, conversational style.

LOGICAL
= Structure your messages logically, remembering to use the 4 point plan. Start with an introduction, develop your points logically in the central section, and come to a natural conclusion in which you state the action you need from the reader. Finish with an appropriate one-liner.

EMPATHETIC
= Put yourself in your reader's place and ask yourself how the reader will feel when he/she reads your message. If anything is unclear, or if anything is worded badly, then change it before you send it.

ACCURATE= Make sure all the relevant details are included - times, dates, names, facts and figures.

RIGHT= Proofread carefully(not just spell check!) to make sure everything is 100% right before you send the message.

Science Discussion Forum / Electromagnetic Radiation
« on: March 23, 2011, 03:41:52 PM »

Do you listen to the radio, watch TV, or use a microwave oven? All these devices make use of electromagnetic waves. Radio waves, microwaves, visible light, and x rays are all examples of electromagnetic waves that differ from each other in wavelength..

(a) Longer wavelength; (b) shorter wavelength.

Electromagnetic waves are produced by the motion of electrically charged particles. These waves are also called "electromagnetic radiation" because they radiate from the electrically charged particles. They travel through empty space as well as through air and other substances.
Scientists have observed that electromagnetic radiation has a dual "personality." Besides acting like waves, it acts like a stream of particles (called "photons") that have no mass. The photons with the highest energy correspond to the shortest wavelengths.

Debate Forum / Online debating...
« on: March 12, 2011, 06:11:15 PM »
With the increasing popularity and availability of the Internet, differing opinions arise frequently. Though they are often expressed via flaming and other forms of argumentation, which consist primarily of assertions, there do exist formalized debating websites, typically in the form of online forums or bulletin boards. The debate style is interesting, as research and well thought out points and counterpoints are possible because of the obvious lack of time restraints (although practical time restraints usually are in effect, e.g., no more than 5 days between posts, etc.).Forums are Moderated and welcome online debaters in a friendly format so all may speak their pros and cons. Many people use this to strengthen their points, or drop their weaker opinions on things, many times for debate in formal debates (such as the ones listed above) or for fun arguments with friends. The ease-of-use and friendly environments make new debaters welcome to share their opinions in many communities.

There have been two World Online Debating Championships, run by Debatewise and IDEA.

PLease go through the link...I think it should be more interesting and if interest then sign up or go to the registration and involve the online debate...

Science Discussion Forum / Are brains shrinking to make us smarter???????
« on: February 07, 2011, 12:06:04 PM »
The average size of modern humans -- the Homo sapiens -- has decreased about 10 percent during that period -- from 1,500 to 1,359 cubic centimeters, the size of a tennis ball.

Women's brains, which are smaller on average than those of men, have experienced an equivalent drop in size.

These measurements were taken using skulls found in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

"I'd called that a major downsizing in an evolutionary eye blink," John Hawks of the University of Michigan told Discover magazine.

But other anthropologists note that brain shrinkage is not very surprising since the stronger and larger we are, the more gray matter we need to control this larger mass.

The Neanderthal, a cousin of the modern human who disappeared about 30 millennia ago for still unknown reasons, was far more massive and had a larger brain.

The Cro-Magnons who left cave paintings of large animals in the monumental Lascaux cave over 17,000 years ago were the Homo sapiens with the biggest brain. They were also stronger than their modern descendants.

Psychology professor David Geary of the University of Missouri said these traits were necessary to survive in a hostile environment.

He has studied the evolution of skull sizes 1.9 million to 10,000 years old as our ancestors and cousins lived in an increasingly complex social environment.

Geary and his colleagues used population density as a measure of social complexity, with the hypothesis that the more humans are living closer together, the greater the exchanges between group, the division of labor and the rich and varied interactions between people.

They found that brain size decreased as population density increased.

"As complex societies emerged, the brain became smaller because people did not have to be as smart to stay alive," Geary told AFP.

But the downsizing does not mean modern humans are dumber than their ancestors -- rather, they simply developed different, more sophisticated forms of intelligence, said Brian Hare, an assistant professor of anthropology at Duke University.

He noted that the same phenomenon can be observed in domestic animals compared to their wild counterparts.

So while huskies may have smaller brains than wolves, they are smarter and more sophisticated because they can understand human communicative gestures, behaving similarly to human children.

"Even though the chimps have a larger brain (than the bonobo, the closest extant relative to humans), and even though a wolf has a much larger brain than dogs, dogs are far more sophisticated, intelligent and flexible, so intelligence is not very well linked to brain size," Hare explained.

He said humans have characteristics from both the bonobo and chimpanzee, which is more aggressive and domineering.

"The chimpanzees are violent because they want power, they try to have control and power over others while bonobos are using violence to prevent one for dominating them," Hare continued.

"Humans are both chimps and bobos in their nature and the question is how can we release more bonobo and less chimp.

"I hope bonobos win... it will be better for everyone," he added.
