Namaj/Salat / SALAT - TIPS & TRICKS TO STAY ON TRACK
« on: April 09, 2019, 12:19:28 PM »
1. STOP PROCRASTINATING

The most important thing for you to remember is that prayer comes first! Listen to that voice in your head that is reminding you to pray, and get yourself up to pray. The longer you drag it on and avoid praying, the longer it will linger around in your head and be a source of distraction. But remember, prayer shouldn't feel like a burden. Regardless, once you know that you have prayed, you will feel accomplished and ready to complete the remainder of what you need to get done thereafter.

2. PLAN AROUND YOUR SALAT
The second tip is one I am sure you have heard before, and I can confirm that it's definitely the easiest way to stay regular in Salat - plan around your Salat! For example, if you set your alarm for Fajr prayer, it can be a great way to start your day on time! Of course, when Fajr prayer falls at around 4am, it is more reasonable to pray and go back to sleep. Same thing goes for Ishaa prayer, which can be the perfect time for you to end your day, especially during the summer months.

If you're a student who has a break between two classes that fall between Zuhr/Asr time, use this time to pray your Salat! Similarly, if you're someone has a job, take your lunch break during the prayer times so you don't miss your prayers on a daily basis! This can become much easier if perform your ablution before leaving the house, and maintain it for the prayer times.

Something else that can make it is easier is carrying your prayer mat in your purse or school bag, if you do not have access to one at work or school. If you're a germaphobe like myself, you will be much more comfortable praying on a clean prayer mat!

3. PLACES TO PRAY
Of course, it is much easier to pray on time when you are at home. However, the majority of us spend much of our day outside of our homes (ex. school, work, etc.). It is during the period of being outside of our homes that we can often miss our Zuhr, Asr and Maghrib prayers.

My suggestion is that if you are at school, find areas where you can pray! I know many Universities have designated prayer areas that even provide prayer mats for Muslims. If you have access to such areas, benefit from them! Otherwise, find an empty lecture hall or empty corner of the school where you are able to take 5 minutes to pray.

For those of you who work, try to ask your employer during the interview process whether you can have a silent area for a few minutes a day to pray. Remind them that Muslims are obligated to pray 5 times a day, for which you will need 5 minutes (during your break) to pray.

Finally, when you are out running errands with your family, you should try to be home before it's time to pray. However, knowing this can be difficult, I suggest you look for Mosques nearby, and go there to pray. If you are unable to do this, you can easily pray in your car! Finally, if you're in a clothing store or mall, pray in the change rooms. This is a simple way for you to pray, and then continue with what you were doing, without needing to go home.

There are many ways for you to catch your prayers on time, if you are keen to do so! The excuse of not having a suitable place to pray is not acceptable.

4. SET REMINDERS
Your smartphone can be a great blessing when it comes to reminders. There are many apps out there that can remind you to pray, either in the form of a notification or by playing the Azaan. I suggest every Muslim download an app of this sort to assist with praying Salat on time. If you do not have a smartphone on you at all times, write down the prayer timings in your planner, so that you are mentally aware and reminded. For your home, you can find an Azaan alarm clock like this one, that can notify you and your children to pray on time!

I hope that these tricks assist you with becoming regular in your prayers if you have yet to establish them. You must remember that I can list 100's of suggestions on here for you to establish your prayer, but it is up to you to have the strong desire to do so. If you do not put in the effort to make prayer a habit, no amount of tips will get you to pray on time. As Muslims, we must remember our true purpose in life, which is to worship Allah. May Allah enable us to do so, Ameen.

Communication Engineering / why technology is also not a curse!!!
« on: April 02, 2019, 01:35:03 PM »
There is no doubt that mobile phones have brought a revolutionary change in this electronic world. It has become one of the fundamental means of communication.

The Internet has  easy access for twenty four hours a day using data when there is no Wi-Fi available. As a consequence, we have seen and experienced most teenagers isolating themselves from their family, going to their rooms and constantly texting, posting messages, upgrading face book, showing off photos, and who knows what they are watching. Their behavior has changed. They prefer to be left alone with their mobile rather than communicating with parents and family. It has created a deeper gap in parent-child relationship. Research tells us that the healthy parent-child relationship plays a major role in producing good citizens. In a study conducted at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, researchers found that high use of mobile phones were associated with stress and sleep disorders in women. It was also associated with sleep disturbances and depression in men. This evidence only proves that the use of mobile phones is related to mental health and stress issues.

Placing mobile phone under the pillow or on the bed at night is very common, especially, among teenagers. They are addicted to reply to the messages or notifications instantly regardless of the time of the day, essential or trivial. Using the phone late night causes distraction on their thoughts and sleep. Their mind is not relaxed, and it increases stress level. It can also lead to psychological disorders in some cases.

A creativity researcher at the College of William and Mary, found creativity has decreased among American children in recent years. Since 1990, children have become less able to produce unique and unusual ideas. They are also less humorous, less imaginative and less able to elaborate on ideas.

Mobile phone brings constant interruption, especially, teenagers are bombarded with notifications, messages, updated Facebook, comments etc  every minute. In such circumstances it is up to them how they handle the situation. It is them who make the choice, either they go with the flow and be a part of the crowd or think wisely and deal with the situation prioritizing their health, school, and family. Technology has given us a choice of life to live for technology, which always comes with two options, use or abuse. Using leads to success and abusing follows the destruction.

Most of all, if you have small children at home, from now, teach them about the shortcomings of using cell phones and do not equip them with them when they are still young and unable to be responsible.

Signal Processing & Control System / Adaptive cruise control
« on: September 11, 2018, 11:02:12 AM »
You're going a smooth 55 miles per hour across the George Washington Bridge when you realize you're gaining on the car in front of you.

Your car automatically begins to decelerate as you glance into the sideview mirror, notice the left lane is open, and move over. With clear air and a clear lane ahead, your car automatically throttles and you effortlessly pass the slower traveler. That's when you realize this isn't your dad's cruise control.

It's Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC; also called autonomous cruise control), a technology invented by William Chundrlik and Pamela Labuhn in 1990 and first patented in 1991 by General Motors. The reason you may not have heard of it: it has been reserved only for high-end luxury cars. Lucky for you, it's starting to become available in more affordable cars, according to WIRED magazine.

Adaptiver Cruise Control
The radar camera mounted in the grill below the bumper WikiMedia Commons/Christopher Ziemnowicz
Here's how it works:
ACC involves a microwave radar unit incorporated into a car's front grill.
The radar scans for objects and vehicles up to 500 feet away and calculates the object's velocity, adjusting your car's speed accordingly.
By setting a preferred distance between your car and the car ahead, your car maintains the preferred trailing distance by adapting your cars speed to the car ahead
Allowing you to set a top speed, your car adapts to the driving environment so that once you find an open lane, it automatically accelerates back to the desired maximum speed, reports JD Power and Associates.
Not only does this technology make driving easier, it might make it less stressful too. Studies focusing on traffic and highway driving conditions, reported in the New York Times, produced some startling results:
When a highway is at "peak capacity," only 4.5% of the road's surface area is covered—ACC could help utilize more of the road's surface area
Simulations showed that when a quarter of cars had ACC, travel times fell by 37.5%
Simulations also showed that when a quarter of cars had ACC, traffic delays were reduced by 20%
This means that if at least 25% of vehicles on the road had ACC, traffic jams and delays could be reduced and even avoided altogether. That figure seems like it could soon be a reality: The New York Times also estimated that by 2017, 6.9 million new cars will be released with ACC.

Aside from the cruise control measures and traffic reducing effects, collision warning alerts are also part of the system. Without getting too complicated, the radar and built-in computer measure the distance to the car ahead, the speed traveled, and the braking capacity of the car. When it becomes apparent that the driver is about to crash their car into the back of an unexpecting driver's back bumper, the ACC technology alerts you, hits the brakes, and tightens up your seatbelt.

William Chundrlik, one of the inventors of the radar technology behind ACC, explained how the radar could help prevent accidents, to a degree.

"The game changers are these sensors, whether they are radar, cameras, ultrasonics," said Chundrlik. "The game changer in my mind is integrating sensing technology that allows you to monitor the environment. They are providing you the ability to add more safety and convenience into vehicles. A lot of accidents occur at lower speeds with inattentive drivers and you can use this technology to—and I use this word carefully—mitigate collisions."

Chundrlik even postulated that someday in the future, cars could become completely autonomous, almost like an auto-pilot setting in commercial airplanes.

"You could see the path towards autonomous driving and we're heading down it", he said. "I truly believe that will happen and we're on our way to doing it."

So while ACC currently makes traffic better and collisions rarer, the radar behind ACC may someday make it so we can, as Chundrlik put it, "read the Wall Street Journal while going to work."

Signal Processing & Control System / lane keeping system
« on: September 09, 2018, 05:24:04 PM »
This system is designed to make driving more convenient by helping to keep your vehicle in the middle of a detected lane. Learn how to turn the system on and off, and what to expect when it’s operating, by watching this video on the Honda Insight.

LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
