BBA Discussion Forum / Peril
« on: March 20, 2020, 10:37:18 AM »
Peril is the source of loss as distinct from the uncertainty of loss. For example, a fire, an earthquake and a liability judgment are same sources from which loss emerges. There are perils that give raise to risk but they are not risk in themselves in insurance.

« on: March 20, 2020, 10:34:53 AM »
Risk is something which takes some amount of uncertainty. Risk insurance means uncertainty of loss. But in insurance risk means uncertainty of loss which can be measured in terms of money. For example, accident of a car, burning of a house.

According to Professor Mark R. Greene, “Risk is the uncertainty of the occurrence of an economic loss”.

According to Frank Knight, “Risk is measurable and uncertainty”.

BBA Discussion Forum / Cross- Cultural Management Skills: An Overview
« on: March 20, 2020, 10:27:08 AM »
An important element that bears significant impact on management is culture. Culture is the most fundamental determinant of a person's wants and behavior. Understanding culture of a particular group creates opportunity for operating management in that group. On the other hand, misunderstanding poses a significant barrier. It is the age of globalization. The involvement in international business has increased greatly. So, it is essential to attain cross-cultural management skills.  According to Torriugton (1994), “cross-cultural management is the ability to demonstrate a sequence of behavior that is functionally related to the attainment of operational goals.” This skill refers to

Understanding the impact of multiculturalism and how they affect an organization;
Learning specific culture of other and the own. Cross-cultural management skills always require learning one's own culture without which on comparison is possible;
Recognizing the differences between cultures;
Recognizing what cultural factors and how far they have impact on organizational management;
Learning to implement a culture;
Recognizing how other culture can be implemented within an organization structure and system;

     So, cross-cultural management skills imply understanding the impact of cultural factors, cultural diversity and flexibility in adapting other culture.
