পর্যটন বিকশিত হচ্ছে শ্রীমঙ্গলে। বিকশিত হচ্ছে সিলেট বিভাগেও। এই পর্যটনের আরও ব্যাপক বিকাশে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়ন, পর্যাপ্ত নিরাপত্তা, স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সচেতনতা এবং লোভনীয় প্যাকেজ ও প্রচারণা। এভাবে উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হলে শ্রীমঙ্গলসহ সিলেটের পর্যটন আরও এগিয়ে যাবে। এগিয়ে যাবে দেশও।

সিলেটের পর্যটন নিয়ে রোববার (২৪ জুলাই) বাংলানিউজের বিশেষ আলোচনায় এমনই মতামত দিয়েছেন বক্তারা। সকাল ১০টায় শ্রীমঙ্গলের অভিজাত টি হ্যাভেন রিসোর্টে এ আলোচনা শুরু হয়। চলে দুপুর সোয়া ১টা পর্যন্ত।

বাংলানিউজের এডিটর ইন চিফ আলমগীর হোসেনের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন বেসামরিক বিমান পরিবহন ও পর্যটনমন্ত্রী রাশেদ খান মেনন।

প্রধান অতিথি রাশেদ খান মেনন বাংলানিউজের এ উদ্যোগের প্রশংসা করে বলেন, সিলেটের এ আয়োজনের আগে বাংলানিউজের কক্সবাজার নিয়ে আয়োজনে আমরা উপকৃত হয়েছি। আশা করি এবারের আয়োজন থেকে যেসব প্রতিবেদনে বিভিন্ন সমস্যা-সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে কথা হয়েছে, সেগুলো একটা অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে আমাদের কাছে তুলে দেবেন তারা। এ নিয়ে কাজ করা যাবে।

তিনি সিলেট-শ্রীমঙ্গলের পর্যটন বিষয়ে বলেন, এসব এলাকায় ট্যুরিস্ট এলে ব্যাপক কর্মসংস্থান হবে। সেজন্য ট্যুরিস্ট স্পট এলাকার মানুষদের পর্যটনমনস্ক হতে হবে।

মন্ত্রী পর্যটন বিকাশে শ্রীমঙ্গলে পর্যটন হোটেল-মোটেল করার পরিকল্পনার কথাও জানান। বলেন যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়নে এক বছরের মধ্যে কমলগঞ্জ উপজেলার শমসেরনগর বিমানবন্দর চালু করার কথাও।

রাশেদ খান মেনন পরামর্শ দেন, শুধু শ্রীমঙ্গলের জন্যই হোটেল-মোটেল মালিকরা প্যাকেজ ট্যুর চালু করতে পারেন। যেমন, শ্রীমঙ্গলে দু’দিন-তিন রাত ভ্রমণ করলে আবাসন ব্যবস্থার সঙ্গে যাওয়া-আসা টিকেট ও খাওয়া ফ্রি। এরকম বিভিন্ন আকর্ষণীয় প্যাকেজ চালু করা যেতে পারে। 

মন্ত্রী গুরুত্বারোপ করেন পর্যটন এলাকা পরিচ্ছন্ন রাখার ওপরও। একইসঙ্গে সংরক্ষিত এলাকা রক্ষায় সংশ্লিষ্ট মহলকে সজাগ থাকার কথাও বলেন তিনি।

বাংলাদেশের পর্যটন শিল্পের উন্নয়নে বাংলাদেশ পর্যটন করপোরেশন এর উদ্যোগে সোমবার  দেশের বিভিন্ন স্টেকহোল্ডার ও ট্যুর অপারেটরদের নিয়ে অত্র সংস্থার হোটেল অবকাশ এর সম্মেলন কক্ষে এক মত বিনিময় সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। উক্ত মত বিনিময় সভার সভাপতিত্ব করে বাংলাদেশ পর্যটন করপোরেশন এর চেয়ারম্যান অপরূপ চৌধুরী, পিএইচ.ডি। সভাটি সঞ্চালনায় ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ পর্যটন করপোরেশন এর  মুহাম্মদ মউদুদউর রশীদ সফদার, পরিচালক ( অর্থ ও প্রশাসন)। সভায় প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন বাপক এর হেড অব পাবলিক রিলেশন্স জিয়াউল হক হাওলাদার। আন্তর্জাতিক অঙ্গনে পর্যটন শিল্পের গুরুত্ব ও এর সামাজিক, রাজনৈতিক, সাংস্কৃতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক তাৎপর্য সম্পর্কে অবগতি ও সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি ও বেকারত্ব নিরশনকল্পের বিভিন্ন বিষয় গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে তুলে ধরা হয়।  এছাড়া, সভায় দেশের পর্যটন শিল্পের ভবিষ্যত সম্ভাবনার বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করা হয়। সভায় টিডাব এর চেয়ারম্যান মোঃ জামিউল আহমেদ, বাংলাদেশ ইন বাউন্ড ট্যুর অপারেটর এর সভাপতি  ইকরামুল হক রাজু , ট্রিয়াবের এর মহাসচিব মোহাম্মদ আলী, প্রাইম এশিয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এর প্রফেসর এ আর খান, ইবাইস ইউনিভার্সিটির হোটেল ম্যানেজমেন্ট বিভাগের প্রফেসর  মোহাম্মদ আহসানউল্লাহ (হেড অব ডিপার্টমেন্ট) এবং অন্যান্য বেসরকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রতিনিধিগণ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। বিজ্ঞপ্তি

শ্রীমঙ্গলে পর্যটনের মৌসুম বর্ষাকাল। এ সময় এখানকার চা বাগানগুলো দেখার মতো হয়ে ওঠে বলে নিজের মুগ্ধতা প্রকাশ করেছেন বাংলানিউজের এডিটর ইন চিফ আলমগীর হোসেন।

রোববার (২৪ জুলাই) দুপুর সোয়া ১টার দিকে শ্রীমঙ্গলের টি হ্যাভেন রিসোর্টে পর্যটনের অপার সম্ভাবনা ও সমস্যার নানা দিক নিয়ে বাংলানিউজ আয়োজিত বিশেষ আলোচনা সভার সমাপনী বক্তব্যে এ কথা বলেন তিনি।

দেশের শীর্ষ নিউজপোর্টাল বাংলানিউজের ‘বছরজুড়ে দেশ ঘুরে’ কর্মসূচির ধারাবাহিকতায় কক্সবাজারের পর এবার ‘সিলেটে পর্যটন’ শীর্ষক এ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।

অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে স্বাগত বক্তব্য দেন বাংলানিউজের এডিটর ইন চিফ ও অনুষ্ঠানের সভাপতি আলমগীর হোসেন। এতে প্রধান অতিথি  হিসেবে উপস্থিত রয়েছেন বেসামরিক বিমান পরিবহন ও পর্যটনমন্ত্রী রাশেদ খান মেনন।

আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনায় রয়েছেন বাংলানিউজের হেড অব নিউজ মাহমুদ মেনন ও লাইফস্টাইল এডিটর শারমীনা ইসলাম।

এর আগে, শুক্রবার (২২ জুলাই) একই রিসোর্টে সিলেটের পর্যটন সম্ভাবনা ও এর নানা সমস্যার চিত্র নিয়ে বিশেষজ্ঞ আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

এতে প্রোজেক্টরের মাধ্যমে উপস্থাপন করা হয় সিলেট বিভাগের চার জেলার পর্যটন নিয়ে সরেজমিনে বাংলানিউজ কর্মীদের করা বিভিন্ন প্রতিবেদন।

পর্যটন বিষয়ক এ অনুষ্ঠানে সহযোগিতায় রয়েছে- হোটেল শ্রীমঙ্গল ইন, টি হ্যাভেন রিসোর্ট, ইউএসএইড এর ক্রেল প্রকল্প ও সিলেটের নির্ভানা ইন এবং এমএম ইস্পাহানি কোম্পানি লিমিটেড।

 Both India and Bangladesh must give tourists from each other's country visa-on-arrival, Rashed Khan Menon, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism said on July 15, according to a news agency.
"This is the only way to boost tourism between India and Bangladesh, specially between Bangla-desh and India's northeast," Menon told the inaugural session of the NADI festival-2016 involving India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan in Shillong.
A 149-member Bangla-desh delegation_ politicians, mediapersons, tour operators, bureaucrats and river experts_ led by Menon and Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, arrived in Shillong to attend the conference organised by local think tank Asian Confluence.
Menon said tourism cannot grow in a "suffocating visa regime."
The tourism minister said Bangladesh is 'very keen' to start a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka to Guwahati and get the Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati bus service functional as soon as possible.
He said India will have to open up "as many as possible" border check-posts along the border to boost tourism into Northeast India, which is landlocked and somewhat isolated from the Indian mainland.
Shahriar Alam called for developing river transport between India and Bangladesh, specially with India's Northeast.
"We are developing road and rail transport but we need to develop river connectivity. For that, we need to preserve and protect our rivers and not kill them by building too many dams," Alam said.
There has been a series of anti-dam movements in Northeast by indigenous organisations who feel such dams will destroy their ecology and natural resources.
Alam said that Ashuganj has been declared a port of call as part of the amendment to the Protocol on Indian Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT) which has been operational since 1971.
It is through Ashguganj that Tripura has been getting cargo transhipped through Bangladesh using its ports.
Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya also stressed strongly for reviving crucial inland waterways between India's Northeast and Bangladesh.
"But the hydrology of these rivers have to be protected," Sangma said.
One minute's silence was observed at the conference in memory of those killed and injured in the recent Bangladesh terror attacks.

According to the latest data from the UN's World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), the world's destinations generated US$1.23trn in income from international travellers in 2015, comprising accommodation, food and drink, entertainment, shopping and other services.
This marks an increase of 3.6 per cent year-on-year, and when added to the US$210 billion spent by international travellers on passenger transport services, the total value of tourism exports last year rises to US$1.4trn, or US$4bn per day on average.
International overnight visitor arrivals increased by 4.4 per cent in 2015, reaching a total of 1.18bn.
"Tourism is today a major category of international trade in services," said UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai, who was speaking in the Cuban capital, Havana. "Despite a weak and slow economic recovery, spending on international tourism grew significantly in 2015, proving the sector's relevance in stimulating economic growth, boosting exports and creating jobs for an increasing number of economies worldwide."
International tourism now represents 7 per cent of total world exports and 30 per cent of services exports. It is now the world's third largest industry in terms of value, behind fuels and chemicals. But in many developing countries, tourism is the largest industry.
Growth in tourism revenues was fairly steady across the world's regions in 2015, with Asia Pacific, the Americas and Middle East all increasing 4 per cent, Europe growing 3 per cent and Africa increasing 2per cent. The US (US$178bn), China (US$114bn), Spain (US$57bn) and France (US$46bn) remain the top destinations for international tourism receipts.
In terms of outbound tourism, China's spending power continued to surge in 2015, rising 25 per cent to US$292bn. This was driven by a 10 per cent rise in outbound travellers from China, which totalled 128 million. The US, Germany, UK and France were the next biggest spending markets, but trailed a long way behind China; US outbound spending of US$120bn was less than half that of China.
"As prices of raw materials have decreased, tourism has shown a strong capacity to compensate for weaker export revenue in many commodity- and oil-exporting countries," said Rifai. "Tourism is increasingly an essential component of export diversification for many emerging economies as well as several advanced ones."

Montreal : International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) recently released the preliminary version of its 2015 Air Transport Yearly Monitor, indicating growth in traffic and capacity by markets and ranking global airlines and airports.
-Amongst the salient facts reported by the UN's agency for international civil aviation are the following:
-The world's top three airlines by revenue-passenger kilometres were all based in the United States, with American Airlines taking the top position.
-Emirates outranked Air France-KLM to take fourth place, thanks to growth of 8.8 per cent.
-The world's top three busiest airports by numbers of passengers were Atlanta (ATL), Beijing (PEK), and Dubai (DXB), in that order.
-Despite a decrease in the number of departures, Chicago (ORD) recorded 9.8 per cent growth in passenger numbers, making it the world's fourth busiest airport by the metric.
-At 2.2 per cent, growth in global freight traffic was less than half of that recorded in 2014 (4.9 per cent), reflecting stagnating world trade development.
-International passenger traffic grew by 6.7 per cent year-on-year in the year 2015, with the Middle East being the fastest growing region.
-The highest passenger load factor in ten years was recorded, reaching 80.2 per cent, despite an increase in capacity offered in all regions, thanks to air carrier optimization. North America recorded the highest load factor approximating 83.5 per cent.
-Worldwide, passenger traffic grew by 6.8 per cent in 2015 while available seat-kilometre capacity increased by 6.1 per cent.
These statistics were collated from ICAO's own resources and information provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Official Airline Guide (OAG), and airlines' websites.

Dhaka : Despite gaining, increasing global importance for multifarious benefits-in both developed and developing countries--, development of tourism in Bangladesh, has again failed to get, the importance it deserves.  It continued to fail, getting out the circle of neglect in development priority.
In 2015, following announcement of Visit Bangladesh Year-2016 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and increased allocation for civil aviation, tourism in national budget for 2015-16 by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, a strong ray of hope beamed, that neglect to tourism, is going to end and there would be no shortage of fund this time. Unfortunately, that is not to be.
False hope
While formally announcing visit Bangladesh year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government has taken a decision to celebrate 2016 as the tourism year or "Visit Bangladesh Year-2016" for further strengthening the campaign and marketing of the tourism industry.
"We have given utmost priority to publicity and marketing of the tourism industry side by side with its development, while steps have already been taken to project Bangladesh's tourism attractions abroad, she said, adding Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) has been working to this end to further brighten the country's image".
On the other hand, while presenting national budget, Finance Minister AMA Muhith in his brief statement on said, "The year 2016 has been declared as Tourism Year to revitalise the tourism sector. Although local tourists will play the key role in observing this year, initiatives will be taken to gradually increase the number of international tourists to around 10 lakh and income from this sector to US$200 million by 2018 through improving the facilities at different places of tourist interest."
Unfortunately, however, the hope that generated from the two above mentioned statements turned to be just false. Because, in line with what the Prime Minister said, no supporting appropriate government action followed-even no fund for publicity and marketing tourism industry was given.
Even no campaign fund
In the current 2015-16 fiscal's original budget, aviation and tourism sector was allocated Tk 372 crore. The figure was later revised to Tk 290 crore. Of this budgeted money, no fund was given for campaign, but how much is used for development of tourism is not known. Best efforts to know the information failed.
It is very surprising, because the Prime Minister herself said that her government is giving "utmost priority to publicity and marketing of the tourism industry".
The global campaign, to project Bangladesh as an attractive tourist destination, as well as to erase negative image of the country, that was planned during Visit Bangladesh Year-2016, is yet to take off, due to non-availability of necessary fund.
Bangladesh Tourism Board, the national tourist organisation, unsuccessfully shuttled around different ministries, for much reduced fund of Tk 69 crore, for campaign and some essential improvement at tourist sites (attractions).
The end of fiscal year 2015-16 is just couple weeks away and so is the end of the first half of Visit Bangladesh Year-2016, yet campaign could not get going, due to lack of fund. Is not it mockery in the name of tourism development?
The non-release of fund for promoting Bangladesh tourism, once again demonstrated government's lack of commitment and seriousness, about development of tourism sector.
What is said in 2016?
In the backdrop of such highly unhappy situation, in the national budget for 2016-17, now under consideration in the parliament, the Finance Minister proposed to allocate Tk 549 crore to the civil aviation and tourism ministry, including Tk 100 crore for the tourism development.
While placing the budget for 2016-17, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, "We are planning to undertake a project with view to promoting our tourism sector in the international arena, creating tourism awareness at the local level and developing tourist sites in the country".
"As the ongoing year has been selected by the Hon'ble Prime Minister as 'Tourism Year', I propose to allocate Tk 100 crore initially for this purpose in this budget," he said and added "We are also considering building Tourist and Entertainment Village in Cox's Bazar, an international-standard Tourism Complex and a Five-star hotel in Sylhet under Public-Private Partnership (PPP)".
However, there is hardly any reason to be happy about the allocation in the budget. One is not sure about actual fund to be released and for what purpose - is it for development of infrastructure or campaign to market Bangladesh?
The allocations in the budget itself carry no meaning, if no fund is made available for spending.  In national budget for current 2015-16, fund was allocated for development of tourism in general and for Visit Bangladesh-2016 campaign in particular. Where has the fund gone? Why no fund was made available for the campaign?
Meanwhile, tour operators of Bangladesh, the mainstay of tourism in the country, are not at all happy.
Akbaruddin Ahmed, President, Tour Operator's Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) told a leading Bengali daily that for the past several years they were demanding some tax relief and tax free import of tourism transport vehicles, but those have been ignored in the budget. Better transports and other tax relief are necessary to provide better services to tourists.  They have failed to make government understand this, he said.
TOAB president said that they demanded reduction of 15 per cent VAT on hotel rooms and 7 per cent VAT on food in restaurants, to 7 and 4 per cent respectively. But this was also ignored.
He also suggested that responsibility of branding Bangladesh should be given to tour operators. Bureaucrats, responsible for the job now, are wasting money by using the fund for foreign trips only.
A must, but
Global promotional campaign is a must for any country wanting to position itself as a tourist destination. All the well-established tourist destinations in the region such as-Malaysia, Thailand, Maldives, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal-are continuing the campaign with newer slogans, to keep tourist interested to visit.
It is more important for Bangladesh, not only to let outside world know its diversified attractive tourist attractions, but also to erase the negative image, the country has acquired over the years, due to bad international press.
Fantasy or real?
To the delight of many, while presenting budget for 2015-16, the Finance Minister informed about construction of a 'Convention City'. He said an initiative is being taken to construct a convention city under PPP, about 25 miles away from Dhaka metropolis, he said. He also mentioned about seven other PPP projects in tourism sector.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday in his budget speech proposed Tk100 crore for tourism sector as the government declared 2016 as Tourism Year.

“We are planning to undertake a project with a view to promoting our tourism sector, creating awareness about it at local level and developing tourist sites across the country,” he said.

“As the prime minister declared 2016 Tourism Year, I propose to allocate Tk100 crore initially for this purpose in this budget.”

Muhith said the government is also considering building tourist and entertainment village in Cox’s Bazar, an international-standard tourism complex and a five-star hotel in Sylhet under Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Though the government on December 31, 2015 declared 2016 the Tourism Year, the ministry is going to get the allocation in July next.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon expressed his dissatisfaction in an exclusive interview with Dhaka Tribune recently  over the delayed budget allocation for the tourism sector. 

Earlier Menon announced that steps would be taken to revitalise the sector, and at least 10 lakh foreign tourists would visit Bangladesh in 2016.

ভারত ভ্রমণে শীর্ষে বাংলাদেশী পর্যটক
প্রতিবেশী দেশ হিসেবে ভারতের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের বাণিজ্য দিন দিনই বাড়ছে। এছাড়া চিকিত্সার প্রয়োজনেও অনেক বাংলাদেশীর গন্তব্য এখন ভারত। পাশাপাশি লেখাপড়া ও বন্ধু বা আত্মীয়স্বজনের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাতের উদ্দেশ্যে ভারত যাচ্ছেন অনেকে। ভারত গমনের এ ধারাবাহিকতায় চলতি বছর যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও যুক্তরাজ্যকে টপকে ভারতে আসা পর্যটকের সংখ্যায় বাংলাদেশ উঠে এসেছে শীর্ষে। ভারতের অভিবাসন ব্যুরো প্রকাশিত নথিতে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে।

নথিতে দেখা গেছে, চলতি বছরের প্রথম ১০ মাসে (জানুয়ারি-অক্টোবর) ভারতে বিদেশী পর্যটকের সংখ্যা দাঁড়িয়েছে ৬২ লাখ ৮০ হাজার; যার মধ্যে ৯ লাখ ২০ হাজার বা ১৪ দশমিক ৬৪ শতাংশই গেছে বাংলাদেশ থেকে। দেশটি ভ্রমণে দ্বিতীয় অবস্থানে রয়েছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পর্যটকরা, শতাংশে যা ১৪ দশমিক ৫৫। আর যুক্তরাজ্য থেকে ভারতে গেছে মোট পর্যটকের ১০ দশমিক ৭৫ শতাংশ।

পর্যটন খাত-সংশ্লিষ্টরা বলছেন, ভারত সম্প্রতি ভিসা প্রক্রিয়া সহজ করায় আগের তুলনায় অনেক বেশি বাংলাদেশী দেশটি ভ্রমণ করছে। চিকিত্সাসেবা, ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্য, লেখাপড়াসহ ভ্রমণের সব ক্যাটাগরিতেই ভারতে বাংলাদেশীদের যাতায়াত বাড়ছে। এর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি যাচ্ছে ‘ভিজিটিং ফ্রেন্ডস অ্যান্ড ফ্যামিলি’ ক্যাটাগরিতে। বাংলাদেশে ভারতীয় দূতাবাস সূত্রে জানা গেছে, বর্তমানে প্রতিদিন গড়ে তিন হাজার বাংলাদেশীকে ভারতীয় ভিসা দেয়া হচ্ছে।

এ প্রসঙ্গে ইন্ডিয়া-বাংলাদেশ চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রির (আইবিসিসিআই) নবনির্বাচিত সভাপতি তাসকিন আহমেদ বণিক বার্তাকে বলেন, বিভিন্ন কারণে বাংলাদেশ থেকে ভারতে ভ্রমণকারীর সংখ্যা প্রতিনিয়ত বাড়ছে। এর মধ্যে প্রথমটিই হলো ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্য। কারণ ভৌগোলিক অবস্থানগত কারণে দেশটির সঙ্গে যোগাযোগের প্রায় সব মাধ্যমই ব্যবহার করা সম্ভব হয়। এতে পণ্য আমদানি-রফতানির খরচ ও সময় দুটোই বাঁচে ব্যবসায়ীদের। ব্যবসায়ী ভ্রমণকারীর পরই রয়েছে মেডিকেল ট্যুরিজম। উন্নত চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্থার জন্য দেশটির চেন্নাই পরিণত হয়েছে মেডিকেল ট্যুরিজমের কেন্দ্র হিসেবে। তিনি বলেন, ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গে অনেকেরই বন্ধু বা আত্মীয়স্বজন রয়েছে। তাদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাত্সহ ভ্রমণের সব ক্যাটাগরিতেই ভারতে বাংলাদেশীদের যাতায়াত বাড়ছে।

খাত-সংশ্লিষ্টরা বলছেন, ভারত সম্প্রতি ভিসা প্রক্রিয়া সহজ করার পাশাপাশি গত সেপ্টেম্বরে বরিশাল, রংপুর ও ময়মনসিংহে তিনটি ভারতীয় ভিসা আবেদন কেন্দ্র উদ্বোধন করেছে। ভিসা আবেদনের জন্য ১০টি শ্রেণীতে প্রার্থীদের ভাগ করা হয়েছে। ভিসার জন্য কেবল পর্যটক ছাড়া অন্য শ্রেণীতে প্রার্থীরা সরাসরি আবেদন করতে পারছে। ইন্ডিয়ান ভিসা অ্যাপ্লিকেশন সেন্টারের (আইভিএসি) ঢাকার গুলশান, মতিঝিল, ধানমন্ডি ও খুলনা কেন্দ্রে পর্যটক ছাড়া অন্যসব শ্রেণীর ভিসা আবেদনের ক্ষেত্রে কোনো পূর্বনির্ধারিত সাক্ষাতের প্রয়োজন হচ্ছে না।

২০১৪ সালে ভারতে বিদেশী ভ্রমণকারীর সংখ্যা ছিল ৭৬ লাখ ৮০ হাজার। ওই বছর দেশটিতে বাংলাদেশী ভ্রমণকারীদের অবস্থান ছিল দ্বিতীয়; যা মোট পর্যটকের ১২ দশমিক ২৭ শতাংশ। সে সময় ১৪ দশমিক ৫৭ শতাংশ ভ্রমণকারী নিয়ে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের অবস্থান ছিল প্রথম। আর তৃতীয় অবস্থানে থাকা যুক্তরাজ্যের ভ্রমণকারী ছিল ১০ দশমিক ৯২ শতাংশ।

২০১৩ সালে ভারতে বিদেশী ভ্রমণকারীর সংখ্যা ছিল ৬৯ লাখ ৭০ হাজার। এর মধ্যে ১৫ দশমিক ৫৮ শতাংশ যুক্তরাষ্ট্র, ১১ দশমিক ৬২ যুক্তরাজ্য ও ৭ দশমিক ৫৩ শতাংশ বাংলাদেশ থেকে গিয়েছিল। এছাড়া ২০১২ সালে ৬৫ লাখ ৮০ হাজার ভ্রমণকারীর মধ্যে ৭ দশমিক ৪ শতাংশ ও ২০১১ সালে ৬৩ লাখ ১০ হাজার ভ্রমণকারীর মধ্যে ৬ দশমিক ৩৪ শতাংশই ছিল বাংলাদেশী।

ট্রাভেলস অ্যান্ড ট্যুর অপারেটর প্রতিষ্ঠান ক্যারাভান বিডি লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক আহসান বলেন, ব্যবসায়ীদের পাশাপাশি চিকিত্সার প্রয়োজনে প্রচুর বাংলাদেশী ভারত ভ্রমণ করছে। মূলত বাংলাদেশের চিকিত্সাসেবার ওপর আস্থা হারানোয় এ প্রবণতা বাড়ছে। চেন্নাইয়ে অনেক হাসপাতাল রয়েছে, যেগুলোয় বিদেশী রোগীর প্রায় অর্ধেকই যায় বাংলাদেশ থেকে। তাছাড়া ভিসা প্রক্রিয়া সহজ ও চিকিত্সা ব্যয় কম হওয়ায় অনেকেই ভারতে যাচ্ছে।

তিনি বলেন, বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের মধ্যে সরাসরি ফ্লাইট পরিচালনা করছে পাঁচটি এয়ারলাইনস। আর ভাড়া তুলনামূলক কম হওয়ায় আকাশপথেও যাতায়াত অনেক বেড়েছে।

ভারতের পর্যটন মন্ত্রণালয় প্রকাশিত নথিতে দেখা গেছে, ২০১৫ সালের অক্টোবর পর্যন্ত পর্যটন খাত থেকে ৯ হাজার ৬১১ কোটি রুপি আয় করেছে দেশটি; যা গত বছরের একই সময়ের তুলনায় ১ দশমিক ৭ শতাংশ বেশি। অক্টোবর পর্যন্ত সময়ে দেশটিতে সবচেয়ে কম পর্যটক গেছে পাকিস্তান থেকে; যা মোট পর্যটকের মাত্র ১ দশমিক ৫৯ শতাংশ।

উল্লেখ্য, ভারত ২০১৪-১৫ অর্থবছরে বাংলাদেশ থেকে ৬২ কোটি ১০ লাখ ডলারের পণ্য আমদানি করে; যা আগের অর্থবছরের তুলনায় ২৮ শতাংশ বেশি। অন্যদিকে রফতানি করে ৬০০ কোটি ৪৫ লাখ ডলারের পণ্য।

আমযজ্ঞ দেখতে চাঁপাইনবাবঞ্জের শিবগঞ্জ-কানসাট

ঢাকা: মনে হবে যেন আমের রাজ্যে এসেছি। চারিদিকে শুধু আম আর আম। বাগানে বাগানে আম। আড়তে আড়তে আম। রাস্তা-ঘাট, পথে মাঠে আম। উদোম গায়ে পাড়ার ছোট শিশুটির হাতেও আম। এক কথায় আমযজ্ঞ!
হ্যাঁ, আমের রাজধানী খ্যাত চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জের শিবগঞ্জ-কানসাটের কথা বলছি। চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ থেকে সতের কিলোমিটার দূরে সোনা মসজিদ স্থলবন্দর সড়কের মাঝামাঝি পড়বে শিবগঞ্জ-কানসাট।
পথে যেতে যেতে দেখবেন পুরো রাস্তায় মাথা নুইয়ে আপনাকে স্বাগত জানাচ্ছে ফলের রাজা স্বয়ং। রাস্তায় দাঁড়িয়েই হাত দিয়ে পরম মমতায় ছুঁয়ে দিতে পারবেন তাকে। তার অপরূপ সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতে পারবেন। বাড়তি উপহার হিসেবে দেখতে পাবেন রাস্তার ধারে থাকা পাকা পাকা লিচু গাছের মনভোলানো সৌন্দর্য।
 
চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলা প্রশাসন ২৫ মে’র আগে আম পাড়তে নিষেধাজ্ঞা জারি করেছে। ফলে আমযজ্ঞের পুরো দৃশ্য দেখতে মে মাসের শেষ দিকে ম্যাঙ্গো ট্যুরের জন্য সময় নির্ধারণ করলে ভালো। এখন গেলে পাকা আম দেখা কিংবা কেনা যাবে না। তবে কাঁচা আমযজ্ঞ দেখতে পাবেন।
 
শিবগঞ্জ-কানসাটের বাগানে বাগানে ঘুরে দেখা গেছে আমের ভারে নুইয়ে পড়েছে আম গাছের ডাল। একাধিক খুঁটি দিয়ে ঠেকা দেওয়া হয়েছে ডালগুলো। কোনো কোনো আম মাটির সাথে মিতালি করছে।
চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জের ব্র্যান্ড আম হলো ফজলি। এছাড়াও বাগানে বাগানে ঝুলছে ল্যাংড়া, ক্ষীরসাপাত (হিমসাগর), লখনা (লক্ষণভোগ), গোপালভোগ, চোষা, কোহিতুর, বৃন্দাবনী, গোলাপবাস, জোহরী, দিলসাদপ্রভৃতি আম।
আমচাষি মাসুদ রানা জানালেন, কানসাটের কয়লাবাড়ি থেকে আম বাগান দিয়ে হাঁটতে থাকলে একটানা তিরিশ কিলোমিটার হাঁটলেও আমবাগান শেষ হবে না।
 
চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ আঞ্চলিক উদ্যানতত্ত্ব গবেষণা কেন্দ্রের (আম গবেষণা কেন্দ্র) ঊর্ধ্বতন বৈজ্ঞানিক কর্মকর্তা ড. মো. শরফ উদ্দিন বাংলানিউজকে জানান, এ বছর চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলায় ২৪ হাজার ৪৭০ হেক্টর জমিতে আম চাষ হচ্ছে। এর মধ্যে শুধু শিবগঞ্জ উপজেলায় ১৩ হাজার ৫০০ হেক্টর জমিতে হচ্ছে আম চাষ।
যেভাবে যাবেন:
যেকোনো স্থান থেকে চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলায় বাস কিংবা ট্রেনযোগে আসতে পারেন। এরপর চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ থেকে বাস, মাহেন্দ্র কিংবা ব্যাটারি চালিত অটোরিকশায় যেতে পারেন শিবগঞ্জ-কানসাট। ভাড়া লাগবে ৫০ টাকা। সকালে এলে একদিনেই শিবগঞ্জ-কানসাট ঘুরে যেতে পারবেন। এরসাথে একঘণ্টা বাড়তি যোগ করে দেখে যেতে পারেন গৌড়ের ঐতিহাসিক সোনা মসজিদ, তাহখানা ও হযরত শাহ নেয়ামতউল্লাহর মাজার।
একরাত থেকে যেতে চাইলে চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জে আছে কয়েকটি ভালো হোটেল। তবে শিবগঞ্জে রাত্রিযাপন করলে থাকতে পারেন হোটেল প্যারাডাইসে। কানসাটেও হোটেল আব্দুল্লাহ, হোটেল নাজমা, হাজি হোটেল নামে কয়েকটি হোটেল আছে।
ভাড়া একদিনে ২শ’ থেকে ৮শ’ টাকার মধ্যে। তবে এসি রুম নিলে ভাড়া লাগবে সর্বনিম্ন ১২শ’ টাকা। আমের মৌসুমে পর্যটক ও আম ব্যবসায়ীদের বেশ ভিড় থাকে হোটেলগুলোতে। তাই আগেই যোগাযোগ করে আসা ভালো।

ঈশপের সেই গল্পটা কে না জানে! খরগোশ আর কচ্ছপ একদিন দৌড় প্রতিযোগিতায় নামল। কচ্ছপের ধীরগতির ‘সুনাম’ থাকায় খরগোশ পথে খানিকটা জিরিয়ে নিল। একসময় ঘুমিয়েও পড়ল। আর সেই সুযোগে ‘স্লো অ্যান্ড স্টেডি’ কচ্ছপই ছুঁয়ে ফেল টাচ লাইন। খরগোশের যখন ঘুম ভাঙল, ততক্ষণে অনেক দেরি হয়ে গেছে।

গল্পের সেই কচ্ছপ কিন্তু জীবনের ম্যারাথনেও এগিয়ে। দুনিয়ার দীর্ঘজীবী প্রাণীদের তালিকায় এই কচ্ছপ আছে সেরা পাঁচের মধ্যে। গ্যালাপাগোস জায়ান্ট টরটয়েজ প্রজাতির কচ্ছপ বাঁচে গড়ে ১৯০ বছর! বেঁচে আছে এমন দীর্ঘজীবী কচ্ছপের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বুড়োটির নাম জনাথন। সেন্ট হেলেনার এই কচ্ছপের বয়স কত জানেন? ১৮৪ বছর! আর বেসরকারি হিসাবে সবচেয়ে বেশি বয়সী কচ্ছপটির বয়স ছিল ২৫৫! ২০০৬ সালে সেটি জীবনের ম্যারাথনে ইস্তফা দিয়ে বিদায় নেয় পৃথিবী থেকে। কিন্তু কচ্ছপ কেন এত বছর বাঁচে? প্রশ্নটা নিয়ে মাথা ঘামিয়েছেন বিশ্বের বাঘা বাঘা বিশেষজ্ঞরা। উত্তর মিলেছে, তবে এখনো রয়ে গেছে অনেক রহস্য।
গবেষকেরা দেখেছেন, দৈত্যাকার কচ্ছপের (জায়ান্ট টরটয়েজ) বিপাক প্রক্রিয়া খুব ধীরগতির। তার মানে এদের শক্তিও ক্ষয় হয় অতি ধীরে। সেই ১৯০৮ সালে জার্মান শারীরবৃত্তবিদ ম্যাক্স রাবনার প্রাণীর আয়ু নিয়ে একটা সূত্র উপস্থাপন করেছিলেন। যেখানে বলা হয়েছিল, প্রাণীর বিপাক প্রক্রিয়া যত দ্রুত, তার আয়ু তত কম। গত শতাব্দীতে এটা নিয়ে অনেক বিজ্ঞানীই মাথা ঘামিয়েছেন। অনেকেরই দাবি, এই সূত্র বা যুক্তি আমলে নেওয়ার মতো নয়। তাই এই সূত্রে আস্থা রাখেনি অনেকেই। তবে এই সূত্রের হাত ধরে ইংরেজিতে একটা প্রবাদই চালু হয়ে গেছে, ‘লাইভ ফাস্ট, ডাই ইয়াং’।
ম্যাক্স রাবনারের সূত্র অনেকে না মানলেও কিছু বিজ্ঞানী অবশ্য রাবনারের পক্ষেই রায় দিয়েছেন। তাঁদের বিশ্বাস, প্রাণিদেহের মৌলিক কিছু উপাদান (যেগুলো কোষের মৃত্যুর জন্য দায়ী) ও স্থিতিহীন অণুর (যেগুলো শরীরে শক্তি জোগায়) সঙ্গে বিপাক প্রক্রিয়ার সম্পর্ক আছে। এই সূত্র ধরে এগোলে কচ্ছপের দীর্ঘায়ুর একটা সমাধান অবশ্য মেলে। ধীর বিপাক প্রক্রিয়ার কারণে কচ্ছপের শক্তি খরচ হয় কম। আর এ কারণে কোষের মৃত্যুর হারও যায় কমে।
এর বাইরে আরও যুক্তি আছে। কচ্ছপের সুরক্ষা ব্যবস্থা অত্যন্ত শক্তিশালী। এর খোলসের দিকে তাকালেই তা পরিষ্কার হয়ে যায়। দৈত্যাকার কচ্ছপগুলোর আবাস এমন সব জায়গায়, যেখানে সাধারণত মানুষের আনাগোনা খুব কম। ফলে এদের জীবনের ঝুঁকিও নেই বললেই চলে। কেবল মানুষই নয়, অন্য কোনো প্রাণীর শিকারের তালিকায় কচ্ছপ নেই বললেই চলে! একে তো আকারে কিম্ভূতকিমাকার, তার ওপর পিঠের ওপর ওই বর্ম—এদের দেখলে ভীষণ ক্ষুধার্ত শিকারি প্রাণীও অরুচিতে ভোগে! এদিকে কারও ‘কুনজর’ নেই বলে দৈত্যাকার কচ্ছপগুলোর বংশরক্ষা নিয়ে দুশ্চিন্তাও নেই। ব্যাপারটা যেন ‘খাওদাও ফুর্তি করো’! আরও মজার ব্যাপার হলো, প্রজননের ব্যাপারে তরুণ কচ্ছপেরাই মূল ভূমিকা রাখে। একটু বয়স হলেই প্রজনন-সংশ্লিষ্ট কোনো কিছুর সাতে-পাঁচে থাকে না বুড়োরা!
এই হলো কচ্ছপের দীর্ঘায়ু হওয়ার রহস্য। তবে অনেক প্রশ্নই আছে, যেগুলোর উত্তর আজও মেলেনি। বিজ্ঞানীদের বিশ্বাস, জীববিজ্ঞান ও বিবর্তনের কিছু একটা মারপ্যাঁচ আছে, যা দৈত্যাকার কচ্ছপের দীর্ঘায়ুর পেছনে ভূমিকা রাখছে। তবে রহস্য যা-ই থাক, কচ্ছপ এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে ‘কচ্ছপগতিতেই’!

পরিবেশ ও প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদ নষ্ট হওয়ায় থাইল্যান্ড সরকার কো তাচাই নামের একটি দ্বীপে পর্যটকদের যাওয়া বন্ধ করে দিতে যাচ্ছে। ফাংনা প্রদেশের এই দ্বীপটিতে পর্যটকদের অত্যধিক ভিড় লেগে থাকত। কো তাচাই দ্বীপটি সামুদ্রিক পার্ক সিমালিয়ান ন্যাশনাল পার্কের অধীন। থাইল্যান্ডের ইংরেজি দৈনিক ব্যাংকক পোস্ট জানায়, মধ্য মে থেকে মধ্য অক্টোবর পর্যন্ত বর্ষার সময় দেশের সব সামুদ্রিক পার্ক খোলা থাকলেও কো তাচাই দ্বীপ খুলছে না এ বছর। থাইল্যান্ডের জাতীয় পার্ক, বন্য প্রাণী ও উদ্ভিদ সংরক্ষণ বিভাগের মহাপরিচালক তুনিয়া নেতিথামাকুল বলেন, ‘পর্যটকদের অত্যধিক ভিড়ের কারণে দ্বীপটির যথেষ্ট ক্ষতি হয়েছে। তাই এটা আমরা বন্ধ করে দিচ্ছি। আরও বেশি ক্ষতি যাতে না হয় সে জন্যই আমাদের এ সিদ্ধান্ত।’

Advance Concept of Tourism : Border Tourism 

Have you ever thought of border tourism? The importance of border tourism, attractive places of border areas are increasing day by day due to the extension of border connectivity. You cannot believe how much our border areas are enriched for the attraction of tourists unless you see it by your own eyes. Before that want to say what is border tourism? In easy language, border tourism is that tourism when tourists spend more than 24 hours for living, sightseeing, camping, trekking, eating and recreational activities with a view to watching the attractions of tourism in border places. Bangladesh has border connection with two countries- India and Myanmar. These two countries are connected by 34 districts of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is surrounded by three sides India, one side Myanmar, and another side Bay of Bengal.

Our main rivers are created by the falling of Indian hilly waterfalls. By creating these biggest rivers we have gotten only one delta-country in the world. We have 750 rivers in here and there. Bangladesh is also known as a reverie country. When you will visit our border areas, you can feel the heaven scenario on the earth. You won’t go to India for enjoying the mind blowing beauty of Himalaya; you can easily see the beauty of Himalaya from Banglabandha area of Panchagarh district. Besides Sylhet, Rangamati, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Cox’s bazaar we have more border districts which are plentiful with natural resources and scenic beauty. These natural attractions and scenic beauty of border districts’ areas put motion in the mind of domestic and foreign tourists travelling in Bangladesh frequently.
After establishing rail road connection with India, Myanmar and others neighboring countries of south-Asian region; foreign tourists will come to Bangladesh for business, pilgrimage, entertainment, recreation and other purposes. If we take proper planning for the development of border tourism, it will be number one potential tourism segment for Bangladesh tourism which will contribute to a large GDP growth, employment, earning foreign exchange and so on.

The tourism sector in Bangladesh should start working towards meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions, abbreviated as MICE, to give the largely untapped market a major boost, industry people said yesterday.

“MICE is one of the most lucrative niches within tourism. Business people who travel to a country to attend a trade show or conference tend to spend far more than other travellers,” said Raquib Siddiqi, a travel writer, while presenting a keynote paper at a seminar.

He spoke at a seminar “MICE Tourism in Bangladesh” at the Novoair Dhaka Travel Mart 2016 at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka yesterday.

Worldwide, at least 50 million trips are taken each year for MICE purposes. The global MICE sector is worth about $30 billion annually, according to Siddiqi.

“Unfortunately in Bangladesh, the MICE market has so far remained almost totally unexplored,” he said, although Bangladesh has workable infrastructure and organising capabilities to hold international conventions, exhibitions and sporting events.

Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, former managing director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said foreigners find it difficult to obtain visas to come to Bangladesh compared to many other countries.

“We have to simplify visa processing. In case of MICE, visa requirement could even be removed,” said Chowdhury.

Bangladesh will have to start off now as it might take up to five years to give MICE a good shape.

SAM Showket Hossain, a management consultant, said if service providers can attract corporate bodies in Bangladesh, their MICE sales would double.

He, however, said the rent for convention centres and hotels have to be reduced.


Abdul Matlub Ahmad, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, urged all companies under the tourism and hospitality sector to unite first and come under one umbrella.  “You also need to stop looking at the government. The government can't grow tourism; it is the private sector that has done the job in other countries and the private sector of Bangladesh has to do so.”

Hanif Zakaria, country manager of Etihad Bangladesh, said the Maldives and Sri Lanka have only waters and coconut trees, but they have utilised their resources and been able to attract a huge number of tourists. “On the other hand, we have huge resources, but we have not been able to do the same,” he said.

Kazi Wahidul Alam, editor of the Bangladesh Monitor, said the government and the private sector should start working towards MICE.

Mofizur rahman, managing director of Novoair, said MICE can help Bangladesh grow its tourism sector exponentially.

The four-day international tourism fair began on Friday.

The Bangladesh Monitor, the leading travel and tourism publication of the country, has organised the fair for the 13th time, in association with Novoair, the Bangladesh Tourism Board and Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Rashed Khan Menon, civil aviation and tourism minister, inaugurated the fair, while Syed Ahsan Hossain Kazi, general manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and Bhuban Chandra Biswas, director of Bangladesh Tourism Board, were present on the occasion.

Daljit Singh, adviser to the tourism ministry of Malaysia, and Isra Stapanaseth, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, were also present.

About 50 companies such as national tourism organisations, airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, and healthcare service providers from a number of different countries, including Bangladesh, are taking part in the fair.

The Nepal Tourism Board is taking part in the fair to promote a number of destinations of the Himalayan country.

The board has brought in two private companies to sell their travel products, said Shradha Shrestha, senior officer of the Nepal Tourism Board.

About 20,000 Bangladeshis visit Nepal every year, Shrestha said. All participants are offering discounts at the fair.

One of them is Novoair which is offering 15 percent discounts on air tickets in its domestic routes and visa fee waiver in its lone international route Yangon, said Niladri Maharatan, its marketing manager.

পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামের জঙ্গলে বাঘও থাকতে পারে!


পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামের জঙ্গলে বন্য প্রাণীর এক বিশাল ভান্ডারের খোঁজ পেয়েছেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা। সেখানে বাঘও থাকতে পারে বলে তাঁরা মনে করছেন। প্রকৃতি সংরক্ষণ-বিষয়ক একটি সংস্থার জরিপের বরাত দিয়ে গতকাল মঙ্গলবার এক প্রতিবেদনে এ কথা জানিয়েছে যুক্তরাজ্যের গার্ডিয়ান পত্রিকা।
এলাকাবাসীর দাবি, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামের জঙ্গলে বাঘ ঘুরে বেড়ায়। তারা সেখানে আরও দেখেছে সূর্য ভালুক, বড় বড় বুনো ষাঁড়, বুনো কুকুর আর বিশেষ রঙের চিতা। প্রকৃতি সংরক্ষণবিদদের একটি দল সেখানে অনুসন্ধানে গিয়ে সূর্য ভালুক আর বড় বুনো ষাঁড়ের ছবি তুলেছেন, যা বাংলাদেশে এই প্রথম। এ ছাড়া তাঁরা গত মাসে সেখানে ১৩ সেন্টিমিটারের একটি থাবার চিহ্ন পেয়েছেন। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে, এটি বাঘেরই পায়ের ছাপ।
ক্রিয়েটিভ কনজারভেশন অ্যালায়েন্স (সিসিএ) নামের নতুন একটি সংগঠনের সহপ্রতিষ্ঠাতা শাহরিয়ার সিজার রহমান বলেন, বাংলাদেশে প্রাকৃতিক ঐতিহ্য ধরে রাখার পথে বাধা অনেক। তবু সব আশা ফুরিয়ে যায়নি।
শাহরিয়ার ও তাঁর সংগঠন ক্যামেরার ফাঁদ পেতে বন্য জীবজন্তুর ওপর জরিপ চালিয়েছে। তারা স্থানীয় লোকজনের সহায়তায় পাঁচ বছর ধরে এ কাজ করছে। বাংলাদেশ বন বিভাগও সাহায্য করছে।
পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম এলাকাটি বাংলাদেশের প্রায় ১০ শতাংশ এলাকাজুড়ে। সেখানে ১১টি ভিন্ন নৃগোষ্ঠীর বসবাস। শাহরিয়ার বলেন, ওই জনগোষ্ঠী এখনো পুরোনো জীবনযাত্রা ধারণ করে এবং শিক্ষা ও স্বাস্থ্যসেবার আধুনিক সুবিধাগুলো তারা পায় না বললেই চলে।
শাহরিয়ার ও তাঁর দল গত মাসের মাঝামাঝি পর্যায়ে তাদের কাঙ্ক্ষিত পায়ের ছাপটি খুঁজে পায়। ছবি তুলে একটি কপি পাঠিয়ে দেয় যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ডেলাওয়্যার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র হাসান রহমানের কাছে। তিনি বাংলাদেশের বুনো বিড়াল নিয়ে গবেষণা করেন। ছাপটি বাঘের থাবার কি না, সে বিষয়ে তিনি এখনো ‘সন্দিহান’। তবে বাঘ সুরক্ষা-বিষয়ক আন্তর্জাতিক সংগঠন প্যানথেরার টাইগার প্রোগ্রামের জ্যেষ্ঠ পরিচালক জন গুডরিচ বলেন, ছবি এবং মাপ দেখে তাঁর মনে হচ্ছে এটি বাঘেরই পদচিহ্ন।
জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক ও বাঘ বিশেষজ্ঞ মনিরুল এইচ খান বলেন, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামে কখনো ঠিকমতো বাঘশুমারি করা হয়নি। তবে তাঁর গবেষণা এবং স্থানীয় লোকজনের দেওয়া তথ্য অনুযায়ী, সেখানে প্রায় ১৫টি বাঘ থাকতে পারে।
সিসিএর আরেক সহপ্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও বিশ্বব্যাংকের পরামর্শক ইশতিয়াক সোবহান বলেন, যেকোনো মূল্যে এসব অরণ্য সুরক্ষা করতে হবে।
