“The Modern Man”
Written by: Rasel.
M.A. in English
Daffodil International University, Dhaka.
His name was Lakunle,
A school teacher and very naive in character.
He fonds of modernity without any care,
This is called extremist and it is not fair.
He represented modernity and Baroka represented tradition,
They were so different having no good relation.
Both of them loved the same girl whose name was Sidi,
Finally Lakunle found nothing but Baroka found Sidi.
( This poem is written on the basis of the play “The lion and the Jewel” by Wole Soyinka.)

“Sidi - The Jewel”
Written by: Rasel.
M.A. in English
Daffodil International University, Dhaka.
Sidi; a passionate girl looking like a fool,
Overalls womanized herself being always cool.
She was very practical and also clever,
Lakunle and Baroka wanted her forever.
Sidi loved modernity though wanted dowry,
Lakunle also refused to give her dowry.
She needed such dowry to sustain the tradition,
Baroka impressed her showing that he also loves tradition.
Lakunle found nothing but his fate became cruel,
Ultimately Baroka being lion and Sidi being Jewel.
( This poem is written on the basis of the play “The lion and the Jewel” by Wole Soyinka.)
