Life Style / somne useful Cleaning Tips

The best way to dust blinds?
Close them, then wipe up and down with an old dryer sheet. It'll create an antistatic barrier that helps prevent dust from building up again.

Vinegar and water is a great deodorizer for a musty bathroom.
Spray your shower down as you're getting out. It really absorbs the odors, and the smell of vinegar goes away in an hour.

Vacuuming bathroom mats is a nightmare.
Toss them in the wash every week or two instead.

Dish liquid diluted with water is a great nontoxic all-purpose cleanser.
Just put two squirts in a spray bottle and fill it with water.

To clean your microwave oven, microwave a cup of water with some baking soda in it until it's boiling.
That eliminates odors and makes it super easy to wipe away all that stuck-on stuff.

Clean under stoves and refrigerators with a yardstick covered by a tube sock.

Shine your bathroom tiles with lemon oil.
It also helps prevent mold and mildew.

Life Style / Ways to Get Rid of Ants using everyday materials
« on: July 13, 2015, 01:08:05 PM »
■Lemons - Squirt some lemon juice on door thresholds and windowsills. Then squeeze a wedge into any holes or cracks the ants are coming through. Finally, scatter small slices of lemon peel around any outdoor entrances. The strong acidity and smell can help keep the pests away.

■ Flowerpots and teakettles  -Tired of getting stung by fire ants on your patio? Place a flowerpot upside down over the anthill, then pour boiling water through the drain hole to eliminate the insects’ house.

■ Herbs and Spices-  Pantry staples like sugar, flour, and certain seasonings can fall prey to ants. To keep your food safe, slip a bay leaf inside your storage containers. If you’re concerned about the flour or sugar picking up a bay leaf flavor, tape the leaf to the inside of the canister lid. This trick works inside cabinets, too, where sachets of sage, bay, cinnamon sticks, or whole cloves will smell pleasant while discouraging ants from getting cozy.

Life Style / 7 Weird Use of Deodorant
« on: July 13, 2015, 12:48:32 PM »
Silence a Squeaky Door: Rub onto hinges to stop irritating sounds.

Soothe Bug Bites: Swipe onto a mosquito bite to reduce itching. The aluminum salts in the deodorant help stop pain and swelling.

Prevent Blisters: Slide the gel variety around the sides and tops of clean, dry feet before slipping on a new pair of shoes. The deodorant lubricates problem areas to reduce rubbing.

Freshen Your Closet: Uncap your favorite scented variety and place it in the corner of your closet for a powerful potpourri.

Create Matte Cosmetics: Using your finger, dab deodorant under eyes and along the T-zone before applying makeup to solve shiny skin.

Keep Feet Odor-Free: Apply a thin layer of clear deodorant to the bottoms of your feet before you go to bed at night for wetness and odor protection that lasts through the next day.

Slip Into Jeans: Rub along your legs to easily slide into a tight pair of skinny jeans or your favorite fitted leather skirt.

Life Style / Safety Checklist for eye cosmetics (According to FDA)
« on: July 11, 2015, 03:49:22 PM »
If any eye cosmetic causes irritation, stop using it immediately. If irritation persists, see a doctor.

Avoid using eye cosmetics if you have an eye infection or the skin around the eye is inflamed. Wait until the area is healed. Discard any eye cosmetics you were using when you got the infection.

Be aware that there are bacteria on your hands that, if placed in the eye, could cause infections. Wash your hands before applying eye cosmetics.

Make sure that any instrument you place in the eye area is clean.

Don't share your cosmetics. Another person's bacteria may be hazardous to you.

Don't allow cosmetics to become covered with dust or contaminated with dirt or soil. Keep containers clean.

Don't use old containers of eye cosmetics. Manufacturers usually recommend discarding mascara two to four months after purchase.

Discard dried-up mascara. Don't add saliva or water to moisten it. The bacteria from your mouth may grow in the mascara and cause infection. Adding water may introduce bacteria and will dilute the preservative that is intended to protect against microbial growth.

Don't store cosmetics at temperatures above 85 degrees F. Cosmetics held for long periods in hot cars, for example, are more susceptible to deterioration of the preservative.

When applying or removing eye cosmetics, be careful not to scratch the eyeball or other sensitive area. Never apply or remove eye cosmetics in a moving vehicle.

Don't use any cosmetics near your eyes unless they are intended specifically for that use. For instance, don't use a lip liner as an eye liner. You may be exposing your eyes to contamination from your mouth, or to color additives that are not approved for use in the area of the eye.

Avoid color additives that are not approved for use in the area of the eye, such as "permanent" eyelash tints and kohl. Be especially careful to keep kohl away from children, since reports have linked it to lead poisoning.

Life Style / Refrigerator Strategies: Keeping Food Safe
« on: July 11, 2015, 03:40:47 PM »
In addition to keeping the temperature in your fridge at 40 °F, you can take additional steps to make sure your refrigerated foods stay as safe as possible.

Avoid "Overpacking." Cold air must circulate around refrigerated foods to keep them properly chilled.
Wipe Up Spills Immediately. In addition to helping reduce the growth of the Listeria bacteria (which can grow at refrigerated temperatures), getting rid of spills — especially drips from thawing meats — will help prevent "cross-contamination," where bacteria from one food spread to another.
Keep It Covered: Store refrigerated foods in covered containers or sealed storage bags, and check leftovers daily for spoilage.
Check Expiration Dates On Foods. If food is past its "use by" date, discard it. If you're not sure or if the food looks questionable, the simple rule is: "When in doubt, throw it out."
Clean The Fridge Out Frequently. Make this task part of your kitchen cleaning routine!
