Various Resource for Career Development / Importance of maintaining time
« on: October 05, 2010, 10:56:40 PM »
In our everyday life, it is the work which occupies the major part of our life and many people get so occupied with their work that they end up neglecting other important things of their life. In corporate world where there is huge pressure on employees to meet their deadlines and long working hours, people really have lost balance in their lives.

There is no denial that one can not survive without work because this is what ultimately gives you the money which is the source of everyone’s survival but along with work other things are also necessary. Sometimes some goal or target grabs so much of our attention that we forget everything else and devote all our energy in accomplishing that goal. Achieving goals or targets is not bad but leaving everything else behind for that one particular goal or target can be harmful for an individual.

Time management is the solution to most of our problems. Everybody is provided with twenty four hours only but it depends upon us how we utilize them. And within these limited hours only we have to accomplish all our tasks along with giving rest to our bodies and minds. And to manage the time, it is very important that we set our priorities for our life. When we set our priorities, then it becomes easy to divide our attention according them. For some people it’s their work which is a priority, so they spend more time with their work. When we divide our time according to our priorities, then there are very few chances that we will not be leading a balanced life.

In the end what matters is that we live a life in which we are happy and does not hold any regret that we are missing out something because we don’t have enough time. When we will manage our time wisely according to our priorities, then it will never be so difficult for us to maintain balance in our life.

The Relationship Between Personality and Career Type: Step One -- Self Assessment

by Maureen Crawford Hentz

Whenever I talk about personality in relation to choosing a career type, invariably someone groans and tells me a story like this: Those tests are so stupid. When I was in the sixth grade, I took one of them and it said that I should be a farmer. I think I also took the same test with the same results, and while I don't think I would be a very good farmer, the results are probably a lot more accurate than I'd like to admit. At the time, it seemed ridiculous -- I hated the outdoors and physical exertion, and was particularly averse to being dirty or sweaty. Now, though, as I think in terms of personality, it might have had some elements that appeal to my personality: I like long-range planning (good for planning how to rotate crops), working by myself (for those long days on a tractor), sometimes working on a team (for harvest time), and being the master of my own destiny (if I don't plant the corn, I can't grow the corn).

Personality tests abound, and some are sheer nonsense. Be wary of any personality test that claims to be able to tell you what your dream job is by the type of animal you'd like to be, or by your favorite breakfast cereal as a child. While there are many personality assessments that are statistically valid and tremendously accurate, I'd venture to say that they are a second (and often expensive) step. The best personality inventory is self-reflection and self-awareness.

A self-examination is the best way to begin thinking about career and personality. Conduct your self-assessment in a thoughtful and focused manner. Try these exercises to help you focus:
1.   Make a List. Write down everything you enjoy. That's right -- make a list of everything you enjoy doing. Reading, spending time with friends, organizing closets, listening to music, balancing your checkbook. Allot 10 minutes, and make yourself keep writing things until your time is up. Don't limit yourself in what you write. Put this list away for a day or two and review it later.

2.   Black and White and Read All Over. Get out your resume and look it over. Every resume book you've ever read has told you to use active words. Skim them, and circle the ones that appeal to you most, or those that remind you of good times in your past job situations. Make a list of those words, and add others describing skills you would have enjoyed using. Now, take out today's help-wanted ads. Read every position description, and circle those that use similar skill words to those on your list. Don't look at the job titles, just the descriptions!

3.   Walk Down Memory Lane. Many of our formative personality characteristics have been clear since childhood. In your free time, what did you play? School? Cops and Robbers? When you played, did you organize the games, motivate others, call everyone to get together? When it came time for the school's candy drive, did you go door to door gladly, or beg your mom to take the candy to work for you?

4.   Watch the Tube. Be conscious of the television shows that are of interest. Are they fact-based shows, are they comedies, are they cliffhanger whodunits? The kind of shows we watch can be a good indicator of the kinds of information processing that are most appealing.

5.   Look at your calendar. Everyone needs time on the weekends to recharge. It's how people recharge that varies. Do you long for the weekend so that you can cut loose with friends and go out, or do you hoard free time on weekends so you can read a book, watch TV, and get organized for the week ahead?

6.   Get a little help from your friends. Tell a non-work friend that you are trying to approach your job search from a different angle, and that you need help. Ask him/her to send you a list of 20 words or phrases that describe how you are at work. What our friends imagine us to be like at work is sometimes completely different from how we actually are outside of it.

As you complete these exercises, you should develop greater self-knowledge of your personality. The next step is to research careers that match that personality

Common Forum / Rulled By Technology
« on: September 20, 2010, 12:47:16 AM »
Imagine if, today there were no cellular phones, no televisions or no computers, no DVDs or no Mp3 players, no batteries or no cars! Forget about the rest of the things technology has given us. Have you ever thought of living without these? From the moment we wake up by the alarm in cellular phones or electric clock and throughout the whole day, we are constantly using machine or accessories. Indeed, we become very much dependent on these. Not because the objects provided by technology is always essential but it's making us feel that it's very important.

However, as we are becoming more and more dependent on these materials, we are putting our health on perish. Most of us spend quite a bit of time sitting in front of a computer, at a desk or on a chair in front of a television. Moreover, we are using cars more often, which is limiting physical activity like walking. Using elevators and escalators for just a couple of hours is another example. With less physical activities, doctors and experts are alarmed that there are more patients with complex health problems from very young age.

The excessive use of technological things is also influencing our social lives. Instead of having conversations with friends, we are using cellular phones to talk. It's just the same as meeting them face to face and sharing laughter, facing or seeing their expression for that matter. It happens only for some kind of technological objects. For example, with new cameras in cell phones, we can see friends, we can also see them through web. Also, we are now doing online shopping which is demolishing our social activities. In a way it saves our time but there are additional disadvantages to this way of shopping. No more experience of being in a shopping mall is of course no more interaction with other people. We are just isolating ourselves from others. Young generations are getting much closer to this way of livelihood. No wonder now there are mechanical cats and dogs to play with kids like real pets.

After all, technology has a lot of benefactors in different spheres of life, but sometimes we cross our limits and become depending on it. We should be more practical and careful in the use of techonology.

Nothing seems to be impossible for human being. As we are best creation of Almighty Allah, we can make things possible that are thought to be impossible apparently. And this a general belief what we call "Confidence". It is confidence or self confidence that gives us hope to go ahead. To be successful in life and to to live in this beautiful world more and more. In fact it is the magical power of life. The person who has self-confidence is sure to succeed in life. Any impossible thing can be possible when he/she has confidence. And that is what I want to say, why can't we remember the historical conquest of Mount Everest or landing on the moon? Don't give us courage or hope? Of course. These courage or confidence are to be reflected on every sphere of life to be succeed. Actually, the mystery behind all these efforts is nothing but having self-confidence. Here let me recall the words said by many intellectuals-

The great minds :
"The first step to be famous in life is to have confidence". - Walt whitman.
"Firm confidence, ceaseless effort and struggle for life- all these are the weapon of human being". - Allama Iqbal.
"Confidence leads a man to go ahead". - Virgil.
"Don't consider yourself weaker than others". - John Kipling.
"Real achievement can't be exposed where confidence lacks". - Theodore Moor.
"Always hope for the best but be ready to accept the worst". - An English saying.
"The other name of losing self confidence is lessing your age". - Aristotle.
"Having confidence on yourself and on God is the way to be great in life". - Robert Frost.
"In this world don't rely upon anybody but rely upon your own hands and legs". - Shakespear.

Therefore, from my point of view "There is no alternation of confidence in life to go ahead". Because of this "Man is the architect of his own fate". And to make our fate we must have confidence. Moreover, there will be many obstacles, many barriers. But nothing to be worried about it. All these problems are to be overcome with firm confidence. So we should have confidence in every sphere of life and remember the maxim :

"Nothing seems to be impossible for human being".

Various Resource for Career Development / Increase creativity in two steps
« on: September 17, 2010, 12:59:39 AM »
To increase creativity, you need to do two things. First, you need to encourage it. Second, you need to train your brain. Start on both of these right now, and you can experience greater creativity today.

Encourage creativity and you'll increase creativity. This is true of most things you want to see more of in your life. Encouragement can work wonders. How do you encourage creativity, though?

First, by paying attention to it. Your subconscious mind tends to give you more of what you pay attention to. If you ignore the creative aspects of your life, you are telling your subconscious that they are unimportant. If you consciously note when you are creative, and you look for opportunities to be creative, your subconscious mind will start feeding you more creative ideas. Look for it and you'll find more of it.

Another way to encourage and increase creativity, is to write your ideas down. Keep an "idea journal." If you do this regularly, you'll notice that you often start having more ideas the moment you start to write. A so-so idea may normally be forgotten, but by writing it down, you may remember it, your subconscious works on it, and it can transform into something very creative.

You can also encourage greater creativity in yourself by putting creative ideas into practice. If you paint or write, for example, try anything new. Even just driving a different route to work to see if it is quicker can help. The point is to get you mind working outside of its regular patterns.

Just changing your surroundings can encourage creativity. If you want more creativity in your love life, go hike up a mountain with your partner. If you write, try sitting on a roof to write. If you need new ideas for your business, take a notebook to the park and sit by the duck pond. A change of environment can get your brain out of it's ruts.

Various Resource for Career Development / Avoid conservative thinking
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:49:48 AM »
We should avoid conservative thinking. I mean, "Conservative thinking" is that which we can not share with others. Suppose I get a good idea that  how can I  build my career or I have a good idea of any creative work, but I don't share it with others. It is very woeful. To build a advanced society or country we should express our thinking.
Many people think that what will they do which is necessary for their career?? so that they will become famous. But I think it's not good, cause if we do something by selection then we cann't do anything. For sharing our thinking & avoid selfish attitude we can build a successful career.

      Good wishes for all.........
