Miten Shah, an Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) member in Belgium, is a serial entrepreneur. His most recent venture, Legopreneur, was inspired by the insightful ideas his children share while he builds LEGO creations with them. Miten encourages other parents to adopt similar guided conversations by sharing your work week with kids and basking in their unintentional―but often wise―business insights. Here's what he shared.

Spending time with my kids―ages 3, 5 and 7―has probably taught me more about entrepreneurship than all of the live keynote addresses I have attended in my entire life.

1. Make it simple enough for a 6-year-old
As I was trying to explain to my daughter what my company does, I had an aha! moment that an elevator pitch should be so simple, direct and concise that a 6-year-old can understand it, remember it, and say it back without any mistakes.

With her as my consultant, we crafted the elevator pitch, "Awesome jewelry, for a month―every month" for my jewelry subscription service. It was more challenging to pinpoint the pitch for my accelerator that funds innovative companies. How do you explain an accelerator to a 6-year-old? We managed, coining the pitch, "We give you money, you sell more."

Many entrepreneurs mix work and family life but try to stop it. I'm different: I want to combine the two. For tasks that require creativity, leadership or motivation, kids make ideal Guinea pigs. If it goes well―great! If not, at least you spent some valuable time with them.

2. Be kind, brave and smart
I believe being happy equates with being kind, brave and smart. To share these values with my kids, we created a "happiness board" at home. On it, we keep track of what we've done that is kind, brave or smart.

Witnessing the strong bonds it created within my family, I implemented the practice at work. On Friday afternoons, our team shares where we as individuals have been kind, by making a positive difference. Smart, by searching for a better way. Brave, by achieving a target that seemed impossible.

3. Build something tangible together
I wanted to do something kind, by giving back to my community; smart, by asking good questions; and brave by getting out of my comfort zone. I started conducting video interviews with players in Belgium's startup world―but with a twist. Every person I interview builds one part of a LEGO Pirate Ship. I wanted to tangibly show each individual within the ecosystem working together. I chose a pirate ship, inspired by Steve Jobs' quote, "Why join the Navy if you can be a pirate?" Before elections, we also interviewed leaders of Belgium's political parties, and yes, they also participated in the LEGO building.

Now I'm interviewing every nation's ambassador to Belgium, and we're building a LEGO Caravan. It's a tangible message that the whole world joins together to make something. Some of the most in-depth, profound thoughts the ambassadors share are while they play LEGO with us.

4. Begin with the end in mind
It's not only ambassadors and adults that share impactful messages when playing LEGO; kids are the same. My kids say they enjoy playing with me as I don't push them to follow the instruction manual. However, we do sort out beforehand what pieces they have and think about what they want to make. After all, in life and business: "It's best when we don't follow the instructions, but we must plan and begin with the end in mind."

5. If you build it, then they will believe it
I decided to structure LEGO play dates with my kids while talking to them about my week at work. I guide the conversation, exploring any analogies that surface.

I found this so fruitful that I wanted to share the joy with other parents, encouraging them to instigate similar conversations with their kids, so I started Legopreneur.

One day I mentioned to my kids about building a giant LEGO bus so we could invite all their friends on a tour. My son told me, "It's only when we build it that people will believe we have it." His words motivated me to stop dreaming, thinking and talking about Legopreneur, and make it happen. Only when people see it will they believe it.

His words gave me the kick I needed to write the articles, post images on LinkedIn, and start our podcast.

6. Everybody is replaceable
The LEGO man we designated to symbolize Mr. Legopreneur had a black shirt and blue trousers―an homage to Steve Jobs' uniform. One day, Mr. Legopreneur was lost. I thought of buying a similar character, but it dawned on me: "Everybody is replaceable." We replaced him with another character, a reminder that everyone within my team and even stakeholders are replaceable.

7. Build bigger, be different, become better
I asked my son why he wanted to make spaceships when he already had planes. His answer was simple: "Dad, we've got to build bigger, be different and become better." This ethos of constant iteration and improvement is one that we always seek in companies we invest in. But we were never able to express something so wise so simply.

Playing LEGO with my kids has taught me about myself and my business. As a father, I get the most satisfaction when I can dedicate playtime with my kids, learn from and teach them about ethics, values and life. My Father's Day wish is for a LEGO set so that I can keep learning about entrepreneurship while spending quality time with my kids.

Major Player / 5 Companies Dominating Content Marketing
« on: August 01, 2019, 12:35:40 PM »

Content marketing is central to digital marketing activities in that it permeates almost every aspect of a business, from social media to website development and everything in between. To this end, content marketers play important roles in helping businesses grow their digital platforms by creating, publishing, and sharing materials designed to attract new customers, sell products or services, and increase a company’s online visibility.

In this content marketing guide, we will look at five standout companies that are leading the field. They are an inspiration for emerging content marketers and are great companies to follow for emerging and experienced digital marketing professionals and anyone looking to start their own business.

What is Content Marketing?

What separates digital content marketing from traditional marketing is its focus on bringing value by educating and engaging customers rather than “selling” products outright. As companies offer content that is of genuine interest, users have the opportunity to actually learn and use bits and pieces of information, thereby getting to “know” a brand before they commit to a purchase.

Great content marketing is targeted and genuine, offering products and services that speak to an audience in a real way. Marketers can choose to do this through a number of formats, some of the most effective being videos, email marketing, social media, and even webinars. The beauty of content marketing today is that, with so many incredibly accessible tools out there, we have the opportunity to be more and more innovative at a fraction of the cost that we would have back in the day with traditional adv

5 Top Content Marketing Companies

1. HubSpot

HubSpot has positioned itself as a giant in the content marketing world. Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah originally created the company after they met as grad students at MIT. Ten years later, they have nearly 2,000 employees and are true leaders in the field of digital marketing.

One reason that HubSpot stands out is that they offer so much information and even a few services for free. This free online tool can give you a taste of how quality content marketing can turn site visitors into paying customers. Other free online tools include services such as Lead Flows, Contacts Database, Integrations, Kickback Emails, and more.

As a SaaS (Software as a Service) clients can log into the customer portal in a centralized location rather than having to purchase software that needs to be installed locally. Their blog receives over one million hits per month and therefore clearly is a leader in SEO standing. Their secret to success is creating content that optimizes the potential of transitioning users into customers.

It is estimated that 70% of a customer’s journey has been completed by the time they seek out a salesperson to help them with a purchase. HubSpot has become successful by helping to steer and influence a consumer’s decision-making during that first 70% of the time.

2. TED

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’re most likely familiar with TED talks. TED hosts conferences around the world where influencers and experts give short, timed talks about their area of specialization. These often engaging and informative videos are shared all over social media and in blog posts.

But, did you also know that TED is a major player in the world of content marketing? It isn’t that they provide marketing services in the way that HubSpot does. But they are certainly leaders to the extent that they’ve leveraged in-person events to create high-quality educational material and made it available and accessible to anyone who wants it.

They now have over 9.5 million YouTube subscribers on just their main channel alone. With five million people receiving a notification every time a new video is uploaded, it’s easy to see the value of good content marketing, as well as the influence TED now enjoys.

TED’s main platform is YouTube, of course, where they upload a new video nearly every day, and even offer videos about content marketing itself. It is estimated that their videos have been viewed over a billion times.

Want to learn more about what makes TED talks so special and why they’ve been so successful? Check out founder Chris Anderson’s book that explains exactly how he did it.

Hawke is a small but fierce up-and-coming player in the industry and they’ve worked with several major brands including Verizon, Raleigh, and Fjallraven. Check out founder Eric Huberman’s digital marketing and PR advice in Entrepreneur.

4. KISSmetrics

KISSmetrics is a leader in data collection and analytics and has many services to support businesses of various sizes in their content marketing systems and strategy.

They’re also known for their own excellent content library, of which they offer plenty out for free to the public in the interest of digital marketing learning and education.

This week, we welcome Eva Dominguez to talk about the new age of storytelling in the digital era.

“It teaches empathy for other nations’ problems and imparts understanding and respect towards other cultures, which will increase children’s understanding of foreign places.” — Eva Dominguez

Students of the digital era are preparing themselves for an increasingly connected world, which enables them to work from anywhere, to be curious and savvy about current affairs, to adapt constantly and hone their skills for jobs that don’t exist yet. Digital competency is with no doubt a vital skill to have, but what is equally important is the ability to interact with data and information in an effectively and efficiently.

Eva Dominguez is Founder and Director of MINUSHU, a start-up devoted to creating innovative storytelling experiences with AR and VR technologies, and Creator of NUSHU, an animated adventures series on international current affairs which uses augmented reality and virtual reality technologies to present global news stories to children. Dominguez believes that children should have the same “right to access information as adults” and that the best way to engage them in their world is to tell stories and narratives in an engaging and compelling way.
The Global Search for Education is pleased to welcome Eva Dominguez to talk about the new age of storytelling in the digital era.

Eva, what research have you done on the impact of using AR technology with 8-to 12-year-olds? What have you learned? How does it enhance the user’s experience?

“We have found that through the conversational nature of NUSHU, students are rendered the opportunity to reflect on what they are taking in and then apply it to their curriculum.” — Eva Dominguez

Our team at NUSHU has conducted two types of research since our conception in 2016. The first research is an ethnographic research study conducted with our initial clients, which lasted for the entire school year. This project helped with our understanding of how exactly NUSHU would be implemented in a live classroom setting. For the second round of research, we created a pilot for 60 teachers to use for 3 months. The teachers then evaluated our pilot and we continue to use these evaluations to better craft our product.
How can a virtual character like NUSHU help to narrow the “skills gap” and even the “global citizen gap”?
Storytelling is one of the most human and powerful forms of explaining complex situations. Through the virtual character of NUSHU, it becomes a fun and interactive method of learning for children. NUSHU is a series of adventures for an extraterrestrial that has been tasked on a mission to understand humanity and to come up with possible solutions to the problems that will be left for future generations on earth. At NUSHU, we emphasize media literacy and critical reasoning on global issues. It teaches empathy for other nations’ problems and imparts understanding and respect towards other cultures, which will increase children’s understanding of foreign places.

How are teachers using NUSHU within curriculum? Do you have an example?

Each of our missions provides different opportunities within the curriculum. An example that comes to mind is when one of our teachers needed to implement a Digital Health segment into their classroom. We had multiple missions like deterring Fake News and defining Digital Privacy that were applicable to the topic the teacher wished to cover. And through our teaching guides, they had supplemental materials at their fingertips ready to be applied in a classroom setting. Through our teaching guides, we encourage activities like experiments, projects, debates, plays, and further research. We have found that through the conversational nature of NUSHU, students are given the opportunity to reflect on what they are taking in and then apply it to their curriculum. Teachers have utilized our teaching guides and NUSHU’s mission on Suffragettes and their influence on women’s rights.

How do kids participate/interact with the NUSHU narratives? Can you share any specific stories that would illustrate the impact of the interaction, or share a video clip?

Because of NUSHU’s conversational nature, the learning occurs very organically and the participation from children is essential to the concept of the product. So when they begin to play games and explore the world with our augmented alien, they will develop a sort of repertoire with NUSHU and will be more inspired to learn because they’re also teaching themselves. At the end of every mission, we ask students to do their own research on the topic. After they have felt this sense of ownership and mastered the topic, they are more inclined to continue their search for knowledge. Children have interacted with NUSHU to create plays about the topics they covered.

“At the end of every mission we ask students to do their own research on the topic.” — Eva Dominguez

How would you quantify your feedback/achievements to date with students aged from 8 to 12 years old? What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced?

Teachers and children have absolutely loved NUSHU and their experiences with the product. We have a 100 percent recommendation rate from schools that have implemented NUSHU into their classrooms, and our feedback from students has been very positive. Here is a link to our YouTube channel which shows children’s responses to NUSHU and why they enjoyed their experience with the app. Our biggest challenge up to this point has been exposure to markets outside of Catalonia. As a small startup, resources are very limited and time is of the essence.

How are you planning to build/develop the NUSHU intellectual property in the next 10 years? What are your key goals?

NUSHU is a transmedia concept, a new age of storytelling. Kids see NUSHU as a friend or a resource to help them understand the world. In the next 10 years, we hope to develop and expand NUSHU to almost all media platforms, which will include TV, VR, books, comics, and video games. We hope to be a global brand with impact on both public and private schools all over the world. In order to do this, we have been looking for distributors in different countries and have already started looking into how to expand into untapped platforms.

Thank you to our 800 plus global contributors, teachers, entrepreneurs, researchers, business leaders, students and thought leaders from every domain for sharing your perspectives on the future of learning with The Global Search for Education each month.
C. M. Rubin (Cathy) is the Founder of CMRubinWorld, an online publishing company focused on the future of global learning and the co-founder of Planet Classroom. Department of Innovation & Entrepreneurship / Call for Articles
« on: April 30, 2019, 08:03:44 PM »
The main source of income of a country is the revenue it earns from the taxation system. One such tax is income tax levied on job holders which in turn depends on the employment market. As a developing nation, Bangladesh has traditional jobs which often remain saturated, i.e., many a time do not offer new job openings. For additional revenue to be generated for development, the employment market has to expand generating new types of job vacancies. One way to do this would be to create entrepreneurs who would set up new industries and businesses generating employment and new types of jobs.

The purpose of this publication (online magazine) is to support the idea of entrepreneurship development by providing a forum for sharing ideas and challenges on the way to developing this industry. The more connected people are, the more opportunity and access they will have to continuous learning, helping them develop the skills needed to be more productive, happier and better off in the arena of entrepreneurship. Being connected is good for people, and hopefully will turn out to be good for the economy. The world community, now see the Fourth Industrial Revolution as an opportunity to change models of innovation-driven entrepreneurship for the better and create an environment that makes entrepreneurship more inclusive.
