Title: Project Competition 2012 & Our Law Projects
Post by: MRK_Rashel on July 01, 2012, 09:40:09 PM
On June 23, 2012 our university (DIU) organized Final Project Competition where every department participated with great interest. Our department “Department of Law” participated on that competition. Students of Law Department demonstrated three projects under the direct supervision of our Head, Ms Farhana Helal Mehtab. The projects were:

   Right to Information in Bangladesh;
   Drug Addiction Problem  in Bangladesh, and
   Violation of Women Rights in Bangladesh.

Firstly, I discuss about the “Right to Information in Bangladesh”. The Right to Information is referred in various ways across the world. Some talk of ‘freedom of information,’ others talk of ‘access to information’ or ‘the right to know,’ but all these terms have the same meaning – people have a legal right to seek and receive any type of information related to their rights and obligations.
The RTI (Right to Information) Act was notified in the Bangladesh Gazette on Monday, April 6, 2009. The civil society hailed the passing of the Act as the groundbreaking decision of the government. The rationale of this Act is; since all powers of the Republic belong to the people, it is necessary to ensure right to information for their empowerment.
That project (RTI) aware the visitors about their Legal Rights & help them to exercise this Act properly. That project discuss about the purpose of the RTI, present situation of RTI, reasons behind the ineffectiveness of RIT, way to make RTI effective. The RTI is a major legislative step in the Bangladeshi anti-corruption and transparency movement. The spirit of democracy and the right to information is considered as a fundamental human right everywhere in the world.

Secondly, I would like to discuss about the Drug addiction problem in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is suffering seriously for drug trafficking and drug abuse problem. In Bangladesh, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for implementing drug law enforcement and drug abuse control programs guided by a ministerial level National Narcotics Control Board (NNCB). With financial and technical support from the United Nations Drug Control Program (UNDCP) the government of Bangladesh undertook a Five Year Master Plan for drug abuse control in Bangladesh. The plan is divided into three sectors - Law Enforcement and Legal Assistance, Preventive Education and Information, and Treatment and Rehabilitation. The implementation of this Master Plan started in 1994.
Our Law project shows some posters related to drug abuse and its consequences. Project presenters discussed about the causes, consequences, legal aspect, and remedial measures of drug addiction and give some recommendations to stop drug addiction.
That project also highlighted the national laws and Islamic laws about addiction and tried to show the present practice in Bangladesh. That Project concluded suggesting the government how to overcome this problem.

Lastly I would like to explain about the third project, “Violation of Women Rights in Bangladesh”. Women rights are related to equal rights with men and women. Women workers are not getting equal wages like men, but they work same. In case of inheritance, women are not getting equal property like men & even in job sector women are violated. These are the violation against women right in Bangladesh occurring every time in Bangladesh. To establish women’s rights government has passed some laws but those are not implemented properly. In that project, participators discussed about causes, consequences, legal aspect, remedial measures, and recommendation of violation of women right and discussed about some institution which are working to established women rights.

In conclusion, I must say, that was a memorable day where some of the students of Law Dept worked hard and tried their best to demonstrate their projects which were appreciated by Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbub-Ul- Haque Majumder, Dean of FSIT, Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Dean of FBE and Prof. Dr. M. Golam Rahman, Dean of FHSS. Last but not least, on behalf of the students, I offer my gratitude and special thanks to our Head ma’am, Ms Farhana Helal Mehtab who was beside us from the beginning to end for every single enquires and problems. Her inspiration was a lot for us for attending such an excellent competition.

Thank you M.R.K Rashel for describing about project fair. I am really very lucky because of i was a participator on the project fair & my project was Right to Information in Bangladesh. In present world, right to information seemed like  a legal right given by the Government, for its citizen. As a result in 2009 Bangladesh Govt. enacted this right, named Right to Information Act.2009, through that people can ask any authority to give him information, that authority may be Government or Private. But unfortunately the present situation is fully twisted. people are not getting information. Behind of this situation is their unawareness, Government stay silent. On my project i have tried to mention that reason & tried to make all understood, about this fact. Thank you.
