BRMC / Re: Learning Process
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:38:32 PM »
Children do not need to be told how to learn. They are researchers. They test and taste things to find out more about what they see.

As adults we need to consciously know "how to learn"!

The poster on the right gives ideas on how to learn. Study the poster and form your own ideas. Add a post on your understanding.

Eventually, you have to design a workshop on how to get other students to work out how to learn and apply it to their own subjects.

BRMC / Re: Goal
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:28:52 PM »
Is a child learning to walk, goal oriented?

How is a child inquisitive and goal oriented? When a child sees something at a distance, it is attracted and wants to find out more about it. It cries and when mother picks up the child, he/she points to the thing of interest. To get to its target the child learns to crawl and eventually to walk. The child even licks the floor to find out the taste of the floor. The child will drop things to find/enjoy the sound the thing makes. So the child will try to achieve its target or goal regardless of what happens!

As young adults have we lost our child-like goal driven attitudes? As adults, each is in a better position to think about what he/she wants to achieve, something that would give him/her happiness. This is not easy to set. Sometimes we need to adjust our goals. However, if we do not have any goal at all, we would be wandering around aimlessly.  Doing things aimlessly leads to nowhere.

How can the situation be addressed?

The poster on the right gives some ideas on how to overcome the situation. Study the poster. Form your own ideas to extend the ideas on the poster or add ideas. Give posts on your ideas.

Eventually, the team responsible for "GOALs" will have to design a workshop that can be conducted by them and others in all other departments.

Nazia,

Thank you for the post on the meeting today. Hope you all continued the meeting till you all came to a solid conclusion of how to move forward.

If I may request you/others to give a brief summary of the what the three areas of curriculum development, teaching method and assessment are supposed to do. Basically, what agreement was reached at the end of the meeting between the teams.

Dear Kaushik,

If you need to address me, just address as VC Sir. As this an official departmental site, please add the banner as we discussed. No need for the post of the meeting. Under the banner, we should have the timeline dates of the workshops. Then the THREE child boards with the details of the timelines...Touhid Sir has already sent the pictures, Madam Nishat has cropped the photos. I have asked both Omar and Monir to help you upload the pictures.

A question regarding our students...what is the strong point of our students?[/size]

Attitude / Re: Implementation Forum for ATTITUDE related Issues
« on: August 23, 2015, 11:12:26 PM »
Shajal,

Thank you for being open and clear about "personal objectives" and "organizational objectives". A personal objective is for personal gain, e.g., making some money on the side or to gain temporary cheap popularity.  :-[ On the other hand, an organizational objective is for the better interests of those served by the organization. For the understanding of the person who said, "I don't want to make my students -DOKANDAR- (shopkeeper)", I would like to share a practical experience.

A practical story of student learning:

At a central location of Metropolitan University, Sylhet, there is a "Dokan" or shop which the students of Business Administration run each semester. Throughout a semester for two weeks each time, a group of students take over the management of the shop. The previous groups presents the balance sheet, profit and loss and writes a report on their experience. This way a group of students manage the shop for two weeks and handover to the next group. This way they are organized to practically apply their theory to real practice and learn the meaning of all the terms of business. So when these students graduate, they can relate to the real world. Any sort of business is ultimately, dokandari....

So the person who said, "I don't want to make my students -DOKANDAR- (shopkeeper)", instead of criticizing should suggest how the students can learn better by relating theory to practice or practice to theory.

At DIU we all have a job - the job is to get the students to learn better. So, if someone has thought of a practical idea, the job of a higher authority should be to help improve the experience so that students learn better.

So let us all positively contribute to getting the students to learn better - we all have a responsibility to our students as our salaries come from the fees of the students.

Thank you Mamum and Nazia for your valuable ideas and comments. The problems mentioned by you:

1. Student awareness
2. Student using DIU mail

We may try to solve this in the following manner:
       a. Design some awareness bullets that would help students understand the value of timely payment.
       b. Send this in their DIU mail, both in English and Bangla.
       c. Get Badshah to post an invitation in all FB groups to open their DIU mail to find helpful hints on how to handle "fees" issues.
       d. This way they would be encouraged to open their DIU mail and also find helpful hints on managing money.

So we can start by doing (a), i.e., creating helpful bullets here in the forum. Please suggest hints on how to manage "fees".

Step 3:

Publish a chapter in a book with an editor and review....use international publishers....

•   Research Publications

•   Editorial Book (Book Chapters): Editor/Chapters Author -  Nominated by Publishers, ISBN (International Standard Book Number) mandatory, Duration about 1 year (Depends on Publisher)

   - Editor would be selected among chapters’ author after submitting the chapters or Editor would be selected earlier by publisher before submitting the chapters.

   - Select the author for book chapter if he/she has more than 10 international papers

   - Select the editor if he/she has more than 20 International research papers
