Software Engineering / Re: Accredited R We?
« on: December 09, 2015, 09:38:19 AM »
Thank you sir for your reply. I will do accordingly.

The writing for the banner and the name of the three child boards were given to the Omar Faruk. We are waiting for the three child boards to be created by Omar himself under the board with the banner. From him, I learned how to add picture to the post. I have the pictures with me.

Just waiting for the child boards.

Software Engineering / Our plan for accreditation
« on: December 08, 2015, 05:36:05 PM »
Today we had a discussion with Honorable VC sir and we confirmed that we will have one child board under the software Engineering with the name as "Accredited are we?", and we will have further three child board under this one. Those three boards will contain the work of three teams that we created in the workshop in permanent campus.

when the child boards start, we will post there with the picture of poster and cards captured that day, then we will continue our discussion. a time line of TO DO'S will be uploaded later.

Dear respected colleagues,

Welcome to the software Engineering department forum. Besides the regular posts we will discuss about the specific topics regarding the department and please feel free to share or comment on the topics here.

Our first discussion will be on the IEB accreditation workshop in the permanent campus that we did on last thursday (3/12/2015).

Science and Information / History of Computer Virus
« on: November 09, 2015, 11:21:45 AM »
VIRUS!!

History of the First Known Virus is not the first virus. First named virus and first known virus are different. the funny thing is, they actually meant the same virus that affects animal health.

Please read the following news that is published in daily prothom alo.

a few weeks ago a news was published about the selling of apple iphone in online market places of Bangladesh where most of them were not genuine. even if they were genuine, they were re-manufactured by local shops using several parts of several phones, which ultimately would not work with apple ID.

now another news on several other fake electronics, where you will get a product which looks like genuine but rubbish inside, literally RUBBISH. picture shows lithium ion batteries filled up with sand and portable HDD made from pendrive. Believe it or not, this could actually happen in your case as well.

So, "be aware of buying" or should i say "beware of buying" electronics online.

Thank you very much for the post. Most of the computers of our department including my office computer are affected by this problem.
It would solve thousands of other problems associated with it.

As the Hubble Space Telescope celebrates 25 years in space this week, NASA and its international partners are building an even more powerful tool to look deeper into the universe than ever before.

The James Webb Space Telescope will be 100 times more potent than Hubble, and will launch in 2018 on a mission to give astronomers an unprecedented glimpse at the first galaxies that formed in the early universe.

Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) train has made a new record in Japan where it surpassed the speed of 600 kilometers per hour. This is a world record. Riding on this train will make you feel like riding on a plane on the ground. It is expensive though.

Japan will try to sell this technology to the world. I wish we could buy it. The funny thing is we do not have that much distance to travel at that speed in Bangladesh.

Week-articleLargeHoneybees use different sets of genes, regulated by two distinct mechanisms, to fight off viruses, bacteria and gut parasites, new research reveals.

The findings may help scientists develop honeybee treatments that are tailored to specific types of infections.

"Our results indicate that different sets of genes are used in immune responses to viruses versus other pathogens, and these anti-viral genes are regulated by two very distinct processes - expression and DNA methylation," said David Galbraith from the Pennsylvania State University.

The results appeared in the journal PLOS Pathogens.

According to Christina Grozinger, director of the Penn State Centre for Pollinator Research, beekeepers lose an average of 30 percent of their colonies every winter and an average of 25 percent in the summer.

"Honeybees have more than 20 types of viruses, and several of them have been linked to losses of honey bee colonies," she said.

Yet, beekeepers currently do not have any commercially available methods to reduce viral infections.

The researchers measured expression levels of all genes in the honeybee genome in both infected and uninfected bees.

They found that the RNAi pathway had increased activity and, therefore, is likely an important anti-viral immune pathway in bees.

"The RNAi pathway helps to cut up and destroy viral RNA so it is not infectious," Grozinger explained.

Scientists and beekeepers are increasingly interested in using RNAi approaches to control viruses and parasites in agricultural crops and in honeybee colonies, according to Grozinger.

The researchers also scanned the honeybee DNA for extra methylation marks that may have been added or removed from genes in virus-infected bees.

The team found that viral infections do change the pattern of DNA methylation in honeybees, and in a completely different set of genes from the ones in the RNAi pathway.

Many of these differentially methylated genes are also involved in anti-viral responses in mammals, said Grozinger.

Researchers have developed a wearable device for the visually-challenged people that can help them avoid a collision.

People who have lost some of their peripheral vision, such as those with glaucoma, or brain injury that causes half visual field loss, often face mobility challenges and increased likelihood of falls and collisions.

"We developed this pocket-sized collision warning device, which can predict impending collisions based on time to collision rather than proximity," said paper co-author Shrinivas Pundlik.

The findings are published in Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science (IOVS).

Science and Information / Bacteria can create 'natural battery'
« on: March 29, 2015, 09:59:11 AM »
Bacteria can use tiny magnetic particles to effectively create a "natural battery", a new research shows.

The bacteria can load electrons onto and discharge electrons from microscopic particles of magnetite.

This discovery holds the potential of using this mechanism to help clean up environmental pollution and other bioengineering applications.

Science and Information / The US to launch underwater spy satellites
« on: March 29, 2015, 09:56:53 AM »
The robotic revolution that transformed warfare in the skies will soon extend to the deep sea, with underwater spy "satellites," drone-launching pods on the ocean floor and unmanned ships hunting submarines.
Officials at the US military's research agency outlined new programs this week that include a number of potentially groundbreaking technologies that could alter the way naval battles are fought, in the same way that robotic aircraft have altered warfare on land and in the air.
One proposed system envisages robot pods on the ocean floor that would be activated when needed.
The pods could launch surveillance drones in the air or at sea or provide a communications link when American forces are facing electronic jamming, said Jared Adams, spokesman for Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
