Pure mathematics is the branches of mathematics that study and develop the principles of mathematics for their own sake rather than for their immediate usefulness. In other words, pure mathematics study entirely the abstract concepts. In the past, practical applications have motivated the development of mathematical theories, which then became the subject of study in pure mathematics, where mathematics is developed primarily for its own sake.
