Post by: Karbook on May 09, 2010, 10:04:19 PM
Few days back Prof. Dr. Mofizar sir, one of our course teachers, appreciated me after concluding my regular prospectus’s presentation in the classroom. To pursue acquaintance on James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is one of the errands in each trimester. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man a story of the development of Stephen's mind, the protagonist in the novel, who wants to be a genuine artist. The Artist in this novel discovers what it means to become an artist. Stephen's decision at the end of the novel; to leave his family and friends behind and go into exile in order to become an artist—suggests that Joyce sees the artist as a necessarily isolated figure. In his decision, Stephen turns his back on his community, refusing to accept the constraints of political involvement, religious devotion, and family commitment that the community places on its members.

In a minute statement it can be said that friends & family, language, religion, nationality are the barrier to be a perfect artist in this world. Awfully I do support this statement, particularly, when the family affair becomes burrier to our radiant. Here for being a student of M. A. in English Literature to be a booming person on English Literature should be my first priority and goal. But sometime you may crush from your ambition if you carry affectation for parents. Correspondingly few days back I lost my path on the way of booming person on English Literature.

On 23rd February 2010, we all concern about the incident of violence at Khagrachari Sadar in Chittagong Hill Tracts. Arson attacks on houses and shops from Modhupur, Milonpur, Shatvaiyapara, Mohajonpara, Collegepara and adjoining areas in Khagrachari sadar, following the earlier incident of arson attacks and killing on 20th February 2010 in Bagahichri Upazila of Rangamati District. During the conflict my parents were in Khagrachri. As our residence locates in the village of Modhupur, both of my parents were also on threat. They had to flee away and sheltered on the peak of near hill. During the time I was on call with my mom and feeling suffocating sitting at Dhaka. I was in too tense for next couple of days therefore I forgot to go to university. I was fully detached from attaining in class, sitting for quiz tests and any other stuff in university. Instead of listening Professor’s lecture in the classroom I used to go to Dhaka University and Muktomonch in Polton for attaining the protest on against the conflict.

Parents are the economy device to maximum students in Chittagong Hill Tracts as well as in Bangladesh. If a student attends to anxiety of parents then he/she never concentrate on his/ her study. Similarly, lying on those days, I couldn’t concentrate towards my study. That results poorer marks in different courses and I vanish my radiant of being a scholar in English Literature.

All over way of thinking I was presenting my speech in favor of James Joyce’s concept on family and national barrier to be a perfect artist or writer in this world. Prof. Dr. Mofizar pleased to hear my speech and told that “Cute- you were GRAB ON YOUR TOPIC. SPOKE WELL-THANK YOU VERY MUCH.” I replied “thank you everyone (to my mates), thank you Sir.!!!!”
