Congratulation to the Country’s first female Speaker...

According to the news, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is set to become the country’s first female Speaker. Awami League Parliamentary Party on Monday night unanimously nominated her for the post of Speaker which fell vacant after speaker Abdul Hamid was sworn in as president on April 24. The ALPB took the decision at a meeting at the conference room of the treasury bench lawmakers at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who heads the ruling AL, chaired the meeting.

I, on behalf of the Dept of Law, DIU, CONGRATULATE, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury whom I personally know from my Dhaka University, Law Department student life. So many precious moments I can recall now about this bright, brilliant woman whom I found a kind, helpful elder sister of the department. Just now remembering the “1st National Commercial Moot Court Competition” organized by Dhaka University, Law Department where I was honored to be the judge along with Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Barrister Tania Amir, Dr Saira Rahman Khan, Barrister Tureen Afroz.

Thank you all for reading this post & for posting thoughtful replies.

Special thanks to Riaduzzaman for providing the list of Women Speakers of National Parliaments which shows that the process started on 1927 ( Austria) and we have become the proud part of it in 2013 (Bangladesh).
