Title: Various Integrated Online Library Software in the World

An automated library software usually consists of a number of functional modules, such as acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation, serials, and an OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Today a large number of integrated library softwares are available in the world. Among these, mention may be made of the following important one :

1.GLAS
GLAS stands for Graphical Library Automation System. It was first developed by EOSI (Electronic Online System International), an UK based organization.The software was released in April 1996 in UK and then has achieved success worldwide in this field. In Bangladesh two organizations are now using this software, one is Dhaka University Library and other one is National Parliament Library.

2. CDS/ISIS
CDS/ISIS (Computerized Documentation System/Integrated Set of Information System), an information storage and retrieval system, was first developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in the early 1970s. CDS/ISIS is one of the most popular database management software packages ever developed.

3. KOHA
Since the original implementation in 1999, Koha functionality has been adopted by thousands of libraries world wide, each adding features and functions, deepening the capability of the system. With the 3.0 release in 2005, and the integration of the powerful Zebra indexing engine, Koha became a viable, scalable solution for libraries of all kinds. In Bangladesh, most of the libraries of university use this software. Daffodil University Central Library also use this functionally advanced software for its users.

4. Galaxy Integrated Library System
GALAXY is a library automation system developed by Gaylord Information Systems, New York. It was originally introduced in 1989.

5. ALEPH
This software was produced by Ex Libris Ltd. It is a very flexible library system.

6. Amicus
This client or server-based large-scale integrated library system was developed by CGI information systems and management consultant, Inc., Canada, as the successor to the IBM mainframe-based DOBIS/Libies system.
