Post by: safiullah on October 29, 2013, 12:06:09 PM
The term "domestic violence" varies, depending on the context in which it is used. It may be defined differently in medical, legal, political or social contexts. The definitions have varied over time, and vary in different parts of the world. Traditionally, domestic violence was mostly associated with physical violence. For instance, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition, domestic violence is: "the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another; also: a repeated / habitual pattern of such behavior." However, domestic violence today, as defined by international conventions and by governments, has a much broader definition, including sexual, psychological and economic abuse.
Various types of domestic violence are as follows:
Marital rape, Emotional abuse, Verbal abuse, Economic abuse, Acid throwing, Dowry violence and bride burning, Violence against victims of rape etc.

Domestic violence prevails in every class of people in varying degrees. In case of spouse, its a matter of prestige to reveal for the victim if she is educated! So i think, its better for the victim to empower herself and make the oppressor feel that she is not helpless and dependent on the male counter-part. As long as women will make men feel super, condition won't be changed. Let men feel that women are their equal and better-half, not worse-half!
