Reports of the death of printed newspapers have been greatly exaggerated, according to a study which suggests that people spend far more time reading the paper versions of the 12 national titles than browsing their websites.
The evidence that newspapers are much better than computer screens at capturing and holding readers’ attention may help to explain why Jeff Bezos, the billionaire Amazon founder and pioneer of the Kindle e-reader, has just paid £163 million for The Washington Post, in print since 1877.
