Title: Let prisoners have internet access, says watchdog
Post by: sarwarmhaque on November 23, 2013, 11:15:29 PM
Tens of thousands of prisoners should have controlled access to the internet to prepare them for the real world, according to the prison watchdog.

Nick Hardwick, the Chief Inspector of Prisons, says in a foreword to a report by two prison charities that jails in England and Wales are living in a “pre-internet dark age” that leaves inmates ill-equipped to cope with modern life.

The report said that providing inmates with secure access to the internet could help them to maintain family links and improve their job prospects.
