Bangladesh men's team shared the lead in the Open category of the 41st World Chess Olympiad with 35 other countries beating Chile by 3-1 points in the 2nd round matches Sunday in Tromso, Norway, reports UNB.
Bangladesh team secured maximum 4-match points and 6-game points after the 2nd round matches as they defeated Zimbabwe also by 3-1 points on Saturday's opening matches.
In the 2nd round matches, GM Ziaur Rahman beat GM Vasquez Schroeder Rodrigo and IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar defeated IM Henriquez Villagra Cristobal.
GM Abdullah Al Rakib and GM Niaz Murshed drew with GM Flores Rios Mauricio and IM Valenzuela Fuentealba Luis respectively.
In the women's category, Bangladesh lost to Armenia by 0-4 points.
Bangladesh women's team earned 2-match points and 4-game points after the 2nd round as they lost all 4 matches with Armenia in the 2nd round and won over Ghana by 4-0 points in the 1st round matches.
In the 2nd round matches, WIM Shamima Akter Liza lost to IM Mkrtchian Lilit, WFM Nazrana Khan conceded defeat against IM Galojan Lilit, WIM Rani Hamid lost to WGM Kursova Maria and WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin lost to Sargsyan Shushanna.
