I think this is a wrong way to think. What is more important is learning. Find your learning strength, do what makes you think that you learnt a lot, in the sense that you understand it and that understanding sticks. For some students it is course work to get grades and for others it could be a challenging but fun program.
If you maximize learning you can't go wrong. You will not regret later and you will find your optimal career. So my answer is do which will make you think that you learned the most. The rest will follow. Do not make GPA a goal, but make learning the goal. Always.
