My Dear Shampa,
Thank you for a very good piece for the learners of English today. But I have got a piece too. Please respond.
With my father's advice, when he bought me an A.T. Dev' s English to Bengali Dictionary, I started to learn one word a day but soon I forgot and another strategy automatically started out of my curiosity and that was I got glued to the English of the Bengali like
" Apni shu'tey thai pai na/ Shonkorakey daakey" etc. in stead of learning a word every, I started memorizing my chosen idiomatic expressions in the list of the great A.T.Dev.
I still use those memorized stuff like magic to charm my students and audience if I get a chance.
An old, and currently not in style, strategy of memorizing has worked well for me. Thank God and Thanks to A.T.Dev.

And I mean it, folks.

Memorizing something is really tough, specially vocabularies which are rarely used in day to day life. I respect your dad's advise. What we learn with fun and pleasure, is everlasting. I also forget everyday. :'( :'( But I go through repeatedly. It increases my patience. :) :) I select 10 words( so called high frequency words). Then I write sentences in context. Once I do it, I hardly forget. Please share me some interesting ways to increase vocabulary. Better you can present me a A. T. Dev's English to Bengali Dictionary. :) :)I mean it!!
By the way, could you please make correction in my name? Iftekhat is wrong, dear Sir.

:'( :'( :'( You made me ....., (you know what?) by your response ( and pointing out the wrong spelling of your beautiful name, Madam Shampa Iftekhar). Yes, my father ( and my mother who taught me the first word by making me draw a tree with a pencil on a slate and she wrote "TREE" underneath the picture I drew.) did a great job for my learning English. Thank you for referring to my long gone father.
Yes, I'll give you a gift ( A.T. Dev's dictionary) soon. Just wait. You deserve it.

Everyone has beauty, but not everyone sees it. :'( :'( :'(
