Departments / How to Eliminate Negative Thoughts And Ease Stress?
« on: August 09, 2010, 01:22:25 PM »
I've get this article so handy that posted it for all other forum membes:

With all that life throws at us every day, it's natural to be overwhelmed by negative thoughts:
"I should have known better. I'm never on time. I can't do anything right."

We have the normal stresses of worries about family, worries about the economy, worries about deadlines and what have you, worries about our own health.

And our health can be affected by negative thoughts.

Now there may be a way to break the pattern. Dr. Herbert Benson, a professor at Harvard Medical School, says the answer is a process called cognitive restructuring.

"Cognitive restructuring is how you can frame your thinking."

First, you relax and breathe deeply for a few minutes, all the while chanting a chosen word or phrase. After achieving a relaxed state, Benson says it's easier to challenge and change your negative thoughts.

"You give a thought to—'must it be that way?' and then you choose — perhaps I can retrain that thinking. Stop, breathe, reflect, choose."

According to Benson, regular practice of this exercise can give you a more positive outlook on life—and even ease some medical conditions resulting from stress.

"It has to be based on an opening of the mind so that the mind is more receptive, quieter, less noise, less static so you can change your thinking."

So the next time your stress level starts to rise, remember: that impossible situation you're facing may not be so bad after all.

Permanent Campus of DIU / Re: The dream of a permanent campus
« on: August 09, 2010, 12:49:49 PM »
A few days ago one of my students ask me in my class that why they did not have a permanent campus. He also said that he feels very shy when his friends ask him about his campus. I ensured him that very soon they are going to have a permanent campus. Now it is time to make this true. It is not only the dream of students, we, the teachers also want this from our heart that we will have a nice; permanent campus. Let us make this dream true as early as  possible.

Respected Sir,
the article is very time worthy. The topic of the article is now the  burnning question of our country. None of our governments solved this problem. I do'nt know whatever they did or whatever they will do, but we can do something within our limit. We can switch off our pc, fan, light and other electrical equipements when they are not in use. We can encourage the students to turn off air cooler and fan or light after the classes. Everyday we meet hundreds of students in our institution and they also meet their families and friends. We can motivate them to save our national resources like electricity, gas, water etc. I personally always tell the students to turn off all the switches when they step out of their classes. and also to  encourage their mothers or house maids to turn off gas line and electrical switches when those are not in use.

Let us all be active to save electricity and gas. We can not expect that within very short time we will come out of this problem but we can definitely hope to decrease the misery of the crisis. Because this country belongs to all of us, so all of its problems are ours and we have to solve these.

« on: July 07, 2010, 02:28:11 PM »
Our university is just along one of the most busy roads of Dhaka. So students are requested to move here carefully. Most often traffic move racklessly. So we have to be careful crossing road.Take time to cross road because your life is more valuable than time. While walking beside the road, use footpath. Move carefully and stay safe.

Faculty Forum / Re: who is a teacher?
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:24:09 AM »
Sir, i'm highly appriciating you.

In one of your post there was a proposal for an individual forum in which only faculty members can discuss about some sensitive topics those should neither be read by guests or students nor they can post comment. I think that we should have such a forum where we can share our thoughts to improve ourselves and also students.

Thanking you sir...

A teacher can motivate a student. As  students they may occur many mistakes, not only regarding study. As their mentors, we should make an enviroment, which will show them right path when they feel that they did mistakes and they need help to get out of those mistakes.

Many students cannot share their mistakes and ask for help to their families. I think an educational institution is the second home for any student. So in an institution there must be an enviroment, formed by the faculty members and the other students, which will ensure them a second home which always think of their success.

When students realise that we teacheer present here for their good will, I think they will pay more attention to their duties and they will be more cooperative with teachers in classrooms.

Faculty Forum / International day against drug
« on: June 26, 2010, 12:27:50 PM »
Today is international day against drug. Let us say no to drug. Six Ways To Say "No".

Make no mistake about it, saying "NO" to drugs will be the most important decision you will make in your life!
If you say "no" when your friends ask you to try a drug or a drink, it might make them think twice about doing it themselves. Saying "no" means you have the strength and brains to choose for yourself. There are a few ways to do it:
1.Say you have something better to do. Then do it!

2.Point out that drugs interfere with your mental and physical skills and that you want to be at your best.

3.If you don't want to explain, just say, "no, thanks." If that doesn't work, try a stronger "no way!" and leave.

4.Skip parties or gethering where you know drugs and alcohol will be available. Band them from your own parties.

5.Hang out with friends who don't need drugs or alcohol to have fun. Make a commitment to be healthy and in control of your own future.

6.Develop a contract between you and your parents that states you will do your best to learn about the effects of illegal substances and discuss peer pressure with your parents. In turn, your parents will agree to be available to discuss about alcohol and other drugs.

Don't Let Drugs Ruin Your Neighborhood; and live a healthy and happy life.

Yesterday was father's day. I had some plane to wish my father. But on the day he was not at home. Before starting for university today i've wished him"abbu, happy father's day." He replied " not only wish me, but also pray to almighty Allah for me." But i could not replay that i always wish for him and his wish is my destination. On this very special occation we can do something special for fathers to let them know that we care about them. And i agree with Raju sir because better late than never.
All fathers may stay fine and be fine with their children...

Common Forum / power supply in labratory
« on: June 16, 2010, 02:48:54 PM »
As I'm a lecturer of physics, I've to take some practical classes. There are two labratory rooms for physics. Some of the practicals that are to be performed by students need power supply. But now a days it has become a common problem that students do not get power supply during their lab. Any theory class can be coducted without power supply but practical classes has to be stopped in that situation. Today I've to stopped my practical classes after waiting half time of the class. In this situation students are suffering. They can not complete their all practicals. So when power supply is off there should be back up power supply at least at all practical laboratories.
