Locally-made laptop costing Tk 10,000-Tk 15,000 and cell phone at Tk 1,000-Tk 3000 will be available in the market within next six months after resolving certain legal complications.
Post and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju announced this at a news conference at the PID conference room Sunday afternoon.
He said the government has also undertaken projects to manufacture PSTN (land) telephone set, mobile phone set, mobile battery charger and electric digital meter (for power sector) and market those products under own initiative.
Besides, said the process is also underway to introduce 3G mobile technology in the country within next three months with the financial assistance of the Chinese government, Raju said.
Replying to a question, he said the use of teletalk mobile telephone sponsored by the government has increased and measures are being taken for the survival of teletalk competing with other mobile phone operators.
The Telecommunications Minister said the recent election of Bangladesh to the ITU Council for a four-year term would help digitalize Bangladesh.
Listing various development programs in the telecom sector, he said all villages will be brought under Internet connection by 2015, connecting all government institution with Internet by establishing a national network. Besides, Broadband connection will be increased to 30 per cent by 2015.
The Minister said mobile money order service and cash card have already been introduced and project has been undertaken to establish e-center at 8,000 post offices.
