More time to file IT returns

The National Board of Revenue's (NBR) tax policy department member Syed Aminul Karim has told bdnews24.com that individuals can now file income tax returns within Dec 1.

The extension has been allowed to help people file their returns, delayed because of Eid, Durga Puja and Haj visits.

The introduction of an online filing system has been another cause of delay, according to Karim.

Such extensions have become a tradition, although Income Tax Ordinance makes filing mandatory by Sep.

This is the second extension this year as it was extended on Sep 30 following requests by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers and Commerce.
