পাওলো ফ্রেইরি তার The Practice of Freedom গ্রন্থে বলেছেন, তার ভাষায়, "Every relationship of domination, of exploitation, of oppression, by its definition is violent, whether or not the violence is expressed by drastic means. In such a relationship, dominator and dominated alike are reduced to things- the former dehumanized by an excess of power and later by lack of it". অর্থাৎ তিনি বলেছেন প্রতিটি সমাজে আধিপত্য, শোষণ এবং নিপীড়নের সম্পর্ক নিজ থেকে সহিংস; হয়তো সহিংসতা সেখানে কিছুটা লুকিয়ে আছে বা খোলাখুলিভাবে উপস্থিত থাকে। এই রকম অবস্থায় দুই পক্ষই বস্তুতে পরিণত হয়। আধিপত্য বিস্তারকারী ক্ষমতার আতিশয্যে অমানুষ, আর দ্বিতীয় দল ক্ষমতার অভাবে মানুষের জীবন থেকে ছিটকে পড়ে। উন্নয়ন মডেলে দুই পক্ষ্যের অসম উপস্থিতির জন্য বাংলাদেশের উন্নয়ন মডেলে সহিংসতা একটি সাধারণ ঘটনা।
