আজকাল ভূরিভোজের পর কোমল পানীয় পান যেন ফ্যাশনে পরিণত হয়েছে। যুক্তি হলো, হজমে সহায়ক। কিন্তু এভাবে বেশি নয়, দিনে একবার ৩০০ মিলিলিটার কোমল পানীয় গ্রহণে পুরুষের প্রস্টেট ক্যান্সারে আক্রান্ত হওয়ার আশঙ্কা ৪০ শতাংশ বেড়ে যায়। একটি গবেষণার তথ্য উল্লেখ করে সুইডেনের একদল বিজ্ঞানী এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন। 'আমেরিকান জার্নাল অব ক্লিনিক্যাল নিউট্রিশন' সাময়িকীতে এ গবেষণা প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে।
বিজ্ঞানীরা আট হাজারের বেশি পুরুষের ওপর এই গবেষণা চালান। ৪৫ থেকে ৭৩ বছর বয়সী এসব পুরুষকে প্রায় ১৫ বছর পর্যবেক্ষণে রাখা হয়। গবেষণার শুরুতে তাঁরা সুস্থ দেহের অধিকারী ছিলেন। প্রত্যেককেই তাঁদের খাদ্য ও পানীয় গ্রহণের অভ্যাস সম্পর্কে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করা হয়।
গবেষণার ফল সম্পর্কে লুন্ড ইউনিভার্সিটির গবেষক ইসাবেল ড্রেক বলেন, 'এসব পুরুষের মধ্যে যাঁরা প্রচুর কোমল পানীয় পান করেছেন তাঁদের প্রস্টেট ক্যান্সারে আক্রান্ত হওয়ার ঝুঁকি বেড়েছে প্রায় ৪০ শতাংশ।'
গবেষণা প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, কোমল পানীয়তে ব্যবহৃত শর্করা বা চিনি মানব শরীরের ইনসুলিন অবমুক্ত করে দেয়। এই ইনসুলিন টিউমার কোষ বৃদ্ধিতে সহায়তা করে। কোমল পানীয়ের পাশাপাশি ভাত, কেক, বিস্কুট ও শর্করা জাতীয় খাবার বেশি খেলেও এ রোগের আশঙ্কা বাড়তে পারে। বংশপরম্পরাও এ রোগ বিস্তারে ভূমিকা রাখে। প্রস্টেট ক্যান্সার রোধে পরিমিত সুষম খাদ্য ও পানীয় গ্রহণের প্রতি গুরুত্ব দিয়েছেন গবেষকরা। সূত্র : টেলিগ্রাফ।
