It is important that you spot the signs ofdepression in children at an early age.

As a parent, if you ignore these signs it can catapult your child's mental health into a roller coaster ride. But what are the signs of depression in children? How do you treat depression in children? Ms. Prachi, Senior Consultant inClinical Psychology from Delhi based Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute tells you the signs of depression in children and how to deal with it.

A mother's heart bleeds when their child is hurt or suffering, hence psychologist, Prachi explains what signs to look for in children. She says, "The common signs of depression seen in children are isolation, withdrawal, easily tearful, loss of appetite, disturbed sleep (excess or little), emotional, appears lost and academic decline."

"Parents tend to ignore the depression symptoms of their child till they reach an alarming level," informs Prachi.

She suggests the following tips to treat your child's depression:

1. "Seek professional help as soon as they notice the symptoms. The signs should not be
Over looked or neglected.
2. Encourage the child to talk/share his/her feelings and thoughts.
3. Spend time with the child.
4. Care but not over-care."

These are important points to remember when you approach your child. Childhood depressioncan affect your child's future prospects too. Timely solutions can erase future problems related to mental health.
