Future of Learning & Development
« on: March 06, 2018, 03:41:00 PM »
Social and collaborative tools are the highest priorities for companies looking to deliver effective training to their employees, customers, and partners. At the same time, mobility is playing a major role in the L&D industry: the workforce is no longer confined to a single space and time – it is constantly moving, and people need to have access to training anywhere, anytime. Many companies are also looking at business intelligence as a key element of their training strategies: this is why data analytics is becoming more important than ever.

And what about content? We can identify 2 main trends here: the first is content management, which is crucial to giving companies the ability to organize training content and deliver training in a more productive way. The second, microlearning, is rising as a huge trend as well – and it makes perfect sense: especially when delivered through mobile platforms, microlearning is the perfect way to train people at specific moments of need, with small yet powerful content that can improve people’s knowledge and skills.

How are companies approaching innovation?

According to a recent report by Brandon Hall Group, nearly two-thirds of companies have either a poorly defined technology strategy or no strategy at all. It’s not that these companies are not aware of the need for change. It’s rather that they are not ready to move forward in exploring new opportunities and implementing these in their learning technology stacks (which are usually a combination of Learning Management Systems, Authoring Tools, Collaborative Learning Tools and Simulations/Gamification tools).

This is why, even when the satisfaction rate with their currently adopted technology is not up to par, many companies still struggle when it comes to finding a new L&D approach. Interestingly enough, the market leaders are the companies which are moving towards a new, more effective approach by focusing on innovation. How are they doing it? They are putting a solid effort into the selection and implementation phases of their new technologies, as a poor selection process usually leads to misguided expectations and unexpected costs.

At the end of the day, one thing is absolutely clear: enterprises of various sizes have started to consider eLearning as a viable solution to their budget and productivity- related issues, and they are progressively embracing new learning and training tools. This is why, according to Brandon Hall Group, L&D leaders will allocate future budgets to stay in line with company growth goals.
