Origin of Ras Malia
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:13:06 AM »
Ras Malai (Hindi: रस मलाई) is an East Indian sweet dessert served after a meal. It is popular throughout South Asia.Ras Malai consists of sugary white, cream or yellow colored balls (or flattened balls) of paneer soaked in malai (clotted cream) flavored with cardamom. Rasmalai originated in eastern India. The confectioner Krishna Chandra of Kolkata's “Krishna Chandra Das Confectioner” - from the family that invented the spongy 'Rossogolla' also created the modern day “Rossomalai”, another perennial favourite. To popularize the “Rossomalai”, Krishna Chandra opened a new sweet shop at Jorasanko in 1930.
