Learn to Meditate - Think on the Eternal
By Rose Windale

Stress is a normal part of living - some people can cope with it, others are driven out of their wits because of it. As stressful circumstances are bound to beset everybody, it has to be dealt with. But how- how is it to be able to manage living a productive, happy life despite trying situations? Or in the first place, you might be asking if this is ever possible at all.

Well, it certainly is, and it is dependent on that one crucial thing- your attitude. Attitude is generally understood as the way a person thinks. How you THINK. And thinking primarily has to do with your mind. So it makes sense that you initially fortify your mind. When you do, you can more likely face anything head on, especially stress.

One of the best ways to strengthen your mind is through meditation. It is often said that the mind is powerful, but the power of the spiritual mind is greater. And you can cultivate having a spiritual mind through meditation. The world is becoming more hectic than ever. As a result, people become harried and confused.

Everybody longs for a sense of calm and inner satisfaction. Meditation can bring about these states. Meditation is in fact the gateway to the inner consciousness. When you learn to meditate, you learn to enhance your awareness of your own existence. You begin to realize your overall relationship with the cosmos.

You may be asking for that age-old question "Who am I" and "Why am I here". Or perhaps you are simply looking for ways of relaxation. Meditation can be the answer for these pursuits. If you want to learn to meditate, there are hundreds of techniques for you to choose from.

But in the long run, it will be up to the individual- up to you. You can choose among different schools of thought and look for one which best suits your needs and personality. Meditation is seen to have many different cultural contexts. But there are general facets of this practice which transcend the bounds of any one specific culture.

To meditate is to think on the eternal, as asserted by the Eastern philosophy. When you learn to meditate, you are seeking to expand your consciousness. Until you become one with the cosmos as a whole. Emotions like euphoria, grief or even love are transcendental, but they eventually fade away.

The universe on the other hand is forever. When you learn to meditate, and through practice, you become closely attuned to the very root and purpose of existence itself. Meditation certainly has metaphysical implications. But even if you are not interested in this aspect, the practice has undeniable health benefits.

When you learn to meditate, you can gain positive effects from stress-induced illnesses. Like for instance, high blood pressure and heart disease. Meditation can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine. And together they can target the root cause behind conditions in which stress is one of the main culprits.

Ten minutes of daily meditation can radically alter your life. This certainly is a worthwhile investment of your time. After all, the gains you will have is more than the physical. But rather that of the mind and the spirit and the eternal.
