What is and isn’t in a research article?

Research articles will usually contain:

    * a summary or “abstract”
    * a description of the research
    * the results they got
    * the significance of the results.

Research articles are not good places to find:

    * basic summaries
    * general introductions to a topic

They are the best way to access:

    * The most recent, “cutting edge” research
    * Authoritative information about older research

A very few of my colleagues even don't know what a research article is. Some of them think that an article what he or she has got published in the newspaper, magazine or online forum or discussion is an article that should be considered for promotion.

However, a research article should be published in a refereed or recognized journal. These are also called peer-reviewed journals. DIU journal is also a good one. The articles of DIU are reviewed by professors of public universities, especially from Dhaka University

The types of journal articles that are unlikely to meet the criteria include:

    *
      letters to the editor
    *
      case studies
    *
      articles designed to inform practitioners on existing knowledge in a professional field
    *
      articles in newspapers and popular magazines
    *
      editorials
    *
      book reviews
    *
      brief commentaries and communications of original research
    *
      reviews of art exhibitions, concerts, theatre productions.

International Standard Serial  Number (ISSN)

To be included in this category the journal article must meet the definition of research as amplified in the general requirements for research publications and:

    *
      must be published in a scholarly journal
    *
      must have been peer-reviewed. Note: the fact that an article has been peer reviewed does not automatically mean that it is eligible. The article must still meet the definition of research as well as all other criteria
    *
      must have an International Standard Serial  Number (ISSN)
          o
            Some journals may be regularly published as separate volumes with an ISBN rather than an ISSN. Provided that the publication is clearly identified as an edition of a journal, and not a book, articles in such publications may be eligible if they meet all other criteria.
          o
            If an ISSN does not appear in the journal, external evidence such as an ISSN being cited in an extract from Ulrich's or ISI's directories is sufficient to demonstrate the existence of the number
    *
      the author must be affiliated with USQ.

The types of journal articles that may meet the criteria include:

    *
      commentaries and communications of original research
    *
      research notes
    *
      letters to journals, provided that the letter satisfies the definition of research and the subsequent definitions for journal articles in this section
    *
      critical scholarly texts which appear in article form
    *
      articles reviewing multiple works or an entire field of research
    *
      invited papers in journals
    *
      articles in journals which are targeted to both scholars and professionals
    *
      articles in a stand alone series.

Dear respected all

A conference paper is NOT a research article until and unless it is published in a refereed journal. Many times, a conference paper doesn't fit in the category of an article. For example, i presented a conference paper but when i wanted to publish it in a journal, the reviewer said you have to go for survey work in order to make it worth publishing.

Why is DIU one of the best? Because our website along with web activities is so rich that we are getting recognition from all over the world. Many teachers have publications and research articles in reputed journals. International research organization and publishers pick the articles of different teachers from DIU web-site and are interested in publishing those internationally. Many of us like Mr. Mahbub Parvez, Mr. Masud Ibn Rahman, Mr. A. K. M. Fazlul Haque, Mr. Bimal Chandra Das and many other respected faculty members will be getting loyalty for the research work they carried out. All credit goes to DIU, i think. Because it's DIU who gives us the platform to let our research work familiar with the International publishing bodies.  

Also to mention, DIU is the first University that recognizes and grants remuneration for our research work. To know more, please talk to respective Head of the Department.

Finally DIU is the first university that has introduced Gratuity for the employees. So, let's think before we leave.

Secondary research is research with data compiled and interpreted by someone else. It is usually library and online research.
Primary
Primary research uses data compiled and interpreted firsthand by the writer.

Dear Shibli Sir,

Thanks for your informative posts.I also agree with you that if we publish our research papers in DIU Journal,we have a chance to have further international recognition.But,so far I remember, our honorable Chairman sir,in a meeting with all faculty members, has encouraged us to publish research papers in many other Research Journals along with DIU so that it can be proved that we are really capable of producing academic papers.Now,my question is if we have a lot of research papers with us,we can think of different places but if we do not have that many what will we do?Will it be wiser to think of DIU Journal than any other places?Please opine.
