Pakistani Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez has claimed that he was neither consulted nor was he aware of the national squad announced for the three Twenty20 matches against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the UAE this month.
The Pakistani selectors announced the squad and left out seniors Shoaib Malik and Abdul Razzaq and opted to include two new young batsmen - uncapped opener Sharjeel Khan and Haris Sohail.
According to The Nation, however, Hafeez said that he did not know which members of the squad were announced for the upcoming matches, adding that he was in the dark as he was never consulted for the selection.
The report mentioned that the role of the captain in the naming of squads by selectors has always been a tricky issue in Pakistan cricket, with many being accused of being too dominating while others had complained about not having a say in selection matters, adding that the selectors have also complained in the past of not having the final say.
Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim had recently said that Test and ODI skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Hafeez had dominated selection matters in recent times.
