The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a US Silicon Valley-based organisation, launched its Bangladesh chapter to promote young start-up entrepreneurs.
TiE, a platform of professionals and businesspeople, aims to help the young entrepreneurs by guiding them from idea generation to finding investment partners.
The country is moving forward with information technology and it is time to find out how it can be used to foster new entrepreneurship, Hasanul Haq Inu, information minister, said at the launch of the organization on Saturday.
More than 800 software firms are working in Bangladesh, and the government worked to assist them, he added.
Rokia Afzal Rahman, president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the Bangladesh apparel industry is a multibillion dollar export industry, but the country needs diversification.
Financiers are available for new entrepreneurship, but global networking and partnership is needed, she said.
Sonia Bashir, founder president of TiE Dhaka, said the goal of the organization is to create an ecosystem for new entrepreneurs so that they can fulfill their dreams.
Ashok Rao, global president of TiE, presented a crest to Kabir to mark the organization's 61st chapter.
Shameem Ahsan, vice-president of the organization, said the country needs to focus on five things, brands for the markets, venture capital formulation, skills development, policy advocacy, and infrastructure development.
TiE was founded in Silicon Valley in 1992 by a group of entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals with roots in the Indus region and has grown to 11,000 members in 60 chapters across 17 countries.
