There are ten essential steps for management:
Step 1: Treat/prevent hypoglycaemia
Step 2: Treat/prevent hypothermia
Step 3: Treat/prevent dehydration
Step 4: Correct electrolyte imbalance
Step 5: Treat/prevent infection
Step 6: Correct micronutrient deficiencies
Step 7: Start feeding cautiously including breast feeding
Step
8:
Achieve catch-up growth
Step
9: Provide sensory stimulation and emotional support
Step 10: Prepare for discharge and follow-up after recovery
