HITTAGONG, April 2: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday said that the present government has brought about changes in conventional education system considering the importance of practical knowledge and technology-based education in global perspective.
He said the universities should be made into a place of new knowledge, research and innovation rather than just a production house of certificates for higher education.
"The aim of our education is to build up the new generation as the architect of modern Bangladesh so that they can represent the country before the world and it is not possible through the conventional system of education", the minister added.
The minister said this while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day '13th Annual Scientific Conference 2016' on "Promoting Food Safety, One Health and Blue Economy" at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).
Addressing the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, the minister said the present government has brought 99.47 per cent children under primary education.
"Now the rich people are getting bored not finding maid servants in their houses as the children are now school-bound", the minister commented.
Nahid also said the present government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been able to make equal the ratio of male and female students at schools, according to a news agency.
